Oral defence to be discontinued for (most) Master’s theses

As of 1 September 2017, most Master’s theses at the Faculty of Arts will no longer be defended orally. In the long term, product theses will be the only ones to be defended.

Transitional rules

  • Students at the School of Communication and Culture (CC) and the School of Culture and Society (CAS):
    If you started a Master’s thesis in the spring of 2017 (or earlier) for which an oral defence is required, this oral defence will still be part of your exam if you submit your thesis no later than 14:00 on 1 September 2017.
    If you submit your thesis after 1 September 2017 at 14:00, the oral defence will not take place (and the requirements regarding the length of your thesis will be changed).
  • Exceptions at CC and CAS:
    Product theses

    You will still have the option of an oral defence in future.
    Students studying the Master’s degree in international business communication

    If you were admitted in 2016 or earlier, there will be no changes in the form of your examination.
  • Students at the Danish School of Education
    If you started a Master’s thesis in the spring of 2017 (or earlier) for which an oral defence is required, this oral defence may still be part of the exam if the submission dates for your 1st, 2nd and 3rd attempts to pass are no later than 31 August 2017.
    If you then use your 2nd and/or 3rd attempts to pass, these attempts may also be defended orally.
Education
