Zero tolerance

- for abusive and inappropriate behaviour

At AU, we place a high priority on treating each other with decency and respect, and we have zero tolerance for any form of harassment, bullying, violence or discrimination.

No one should have to experience abusive and inappropriate behaviour. It is a terrible experience for the victim, and it can have far-reaching consequences.

The university must be a good place to study, work and play for all students and employees. We have a shared responsibility to create a positive and well-functioning academic environment and work environment.

We find it completely unacceptable that we get cases of abusive or inappropriate behaviour every year. Even though the number of cases is not high, we consider each case to be one to many. If you have experienced any abusive or inappropriate behaviour, you can get help. And AU encourages you to seek help and guidance.

You have several options. You can contact your student counsellor. You can seek guidance from the Student Council’s Legal Aid service. You can also get help from the head of your department/school, the director of studies for your degree programme, and from other employees at your department/school. No matter who you turn to for help, you can be sure that it will be handled confidentially.
