Degree Programme Structure Electrical Engineering (MSc)

Programme Structure

Master of Science:

  • Compulsory Study Package
  • Specialised Study Package

  • Thesis (30 ECTS)

The first year consists of two Compulsory Study Packages and two Specialised Study Packages.

The Compulsory Study Package is mandatory for all students. You have to choose minimum two of the Specialised Study Package.

As the 30 ECTS of elective courses you can choose between Specialsed Study Packages and individual courses offered by the education (minor variations from year to year).

SPECIALISED STUDY PACKAGES

Choose two of the specialised study packages:

AUTUMN

Photonics

The package addresses the core photonic engineering technologies laser diodes, optical fibers, and photonic integrated circuits, and their applications in communications, sensing and metrology. The package is of interest to engineers who want to become active in the field of photonics, as well as to electrical engineers who want broaden their scope and anticipate on the exponentially increasing convergence of electronics and photonics.
​Prerequisites: Bachelor in Electrical Engineering or similar (e.g. physics course on electromagnetism).

  • Fiber Optic 5 ECTS
  • Photonic Devices 10 ECTS

Wearable Devices

The package addresses: system-level analysis and design principles for wearable electronic devices; analysis and design techniques for wireless communication and sensor applications; high precision, low frequency sensor instrumentation; principles for sensor signal processing; and energy harvesting and power management.
​Prerequisites:Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or eqivalent including fundamentals of electronics and signal processing.

  • RF System Design 5 ECTS
  • Wearable Electronics 10 ECTS

Wireless Communication

The package addresses the industry needs of knowledge in communication and networking technologies. It is an exciting study package that offers an advanced understanding in wireless communication and networking from low (physical) to medium architecture layers (networks/transport) and as well as from  system aspect with insights into current research topics, trends, and applications.
​Prerequisites: Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE) or equivalent including basics in digital signal processing, statistics/probability theory, wireless sensor networks, TCP/IP networking, and programming.

  • Advanced Wireless Communication 5 ECTS
  • Internet of Things Technology 10 ECTS

SPRING:

Signal Processing

The package will give participants insight into methods in modern signal processing, machine learning and computer vision. The basic challenge in this field is to extract meaningful information from signals and data with the aid of mathematical modelling. Signal and data can be real world signal such as sound images or video.
Prerequisites: Bachelor degree in EE or CE or equivalent including digital signal processing fundamentals.

  • Advanced signal processing 5 ECTS
  • Computer Vision and Machine Learning 10 ECTS

Integrated Circuits

The Integrated Circuits package allows the student to learn and practice the state-of-the-art design techniques of analogue, radio-frequency, mixed-signal and digital integrated circuits for modern communication systems. The courses within the package are tailored to address fundamental and advanced challenges in integrated circuit design with emphasis on, but not limited to,  low-power system-on-chip wireless transceivers.
​Prerequisites:Bachelor degree in electrical engineering or equivalent including fundamentals of electronic devices, circuits, signals and systems.

  • Digital Integrated Circuits 5 ECT
  • Analog and Radio-Frequency Integrated Circuits 10 ECTS

Each study package amounts to 15 ECTS credits. By combining these study packages and concluding your studies with a thesis, you can become a specialist in relevant fields of study.
