Help avoid alarms - it costs a fortune!

Warning labels
There are too many alarms at Geoscience, and each alarm is associated with costs!
To remind everyone in the house that from 6. p.m. till 7. a.m., in weekends and on holidays we must stop and think twice before opening doors and windows, a number of different warning labels are put on all exterior doors, all windows in the ground floor, and on fire doors. Hopefully this will prevent many of the actions that trigger the alarms!
See illustrations and explanations of the labels on the staff  website: http://geo.medarbejdere.au.dk/en/buildings/

Lockers

Lockers are now available at two locations in the 1670 complex:

  • In the Master students’ study room, 1672-142.
32 units. Padlocks if needed on own account.
  • Outside the former teaching lab. (room 1672-242)
16 units for students during work in the room.

Study rooms

  • For Master students: Room 1672-142
  • For Bachelor students:
We are working on having room 1674-334 arranged as a new and larger study room - replacing the present bachelor room in 1674-134.
  • For all students:
We are working on having the open space in building 1674, top floor, and the two small offices (330 and 332) arranged as group rooms for all students (first come first served principle).

Rules for students’ use of the rooms appear from the Geoscience subject portal: http://studerende.au.dk/en/studies/subject-portals/geoscience/practical-infomation/rooms/study-rooms/

Outside Geoscience, AU Library in Ny Munkegade also offers study areas for students.

New microskopy room

A new microscopy room for about 10 students has been established in 1672-338. This room is to be used in connection with petrological/mineralogical and micropalaeontological studies, primarily by students working with  PHD, graduate or undergraduate projects. It is not for groups – nor a workplace for students in general.

Students in laboratories

If working in laboratories and with certain types of equipment, be aware that you have received the proper guidance. If not, you must as soon as possible contact one of the laboratory technicians or the responsible scientist.

Mail/parcels

Please respect that the secretariat is unable to acknowledge receipt of mail/parcels addressed to students.
Do not have your private parcels sent to the department address.

Students' printer room

A spiral binding machine is now available in room 1671-xxx, free to use.
As long as supplies last, the accompanying spiral backs are free as well.

IGOR

Four times a year, our head of department and head of secretariat meet with representatives from the student association IGOR. These meetings are held following the IGOR internal meetings and are the students' opportunity to present problems and wishes for improvements.

Contact persons concerning studies

As study administration/student guidance is generally located outside Geoscience, it can be rather confusing whom to contact and where to go in different situations.
A new, hopefully useful overview of contact persons is now available from the Students subject portal.
See: Subject portal > Practical information > Studies.

Spread the knowledge of Geoscience education

An invitation from our communication partner at ST:

Dear Geoscience students.
Have you been on an exciting field trip, perhaps discovering something new, or do you plan a fieldtrip to a special location? Did you in connection with your bachelor or master thesis contribute to new research, found a new method or discovered different ways to use the measurements, perhaps invented a smart instrument?
