2015-2

Alarms reduced

The latest information from the building administration regarding alarms at Geoscience shows progress: The number of alarms is going down.
Our numerous appeals - also to students - not to keep the doors open for long after office hours apparently help.
A great start – stay on track!

No contract - No work

If you are about to do some work for a researcher or technician, it is IMPORTANT that you do not start working until you have an employment contract.
If formalities are not in order, you get no pay – and you will not be covered by insurance!
Contact the Secretariat for further information.

The canteen

New tables
A while ago, you got new tables in the canteen.
Use them well – and take good care so they can last long!

Floor Wash
A good advise from Hong, who cleans the canteen: If you put the chairs up on the tables when you leave the room on Fridays - also after "Fredagsbar" -  Hong will wash the floor thoroughly on Monday morning - i.e. also under the tables!

Borrowing cleaning supplies

It 's OK to borrow cleaning supplies from the cleaning trolleys - but it's not OK that they are not used properly, which in fact happens. Therefore – better ask the cleaning staff first!

New Study Rooms

Bachelor room
A new bachelor room has been equipped in room 1674-334 – with seats for up to 22 students.
It is a quiet room – not for work in groups.
No permanent users – seats can be taken daily on a first-come-first-served basis.
NOTE: The room is booked for a PhD course two weeks in November.

Study room for groups
In building 1674, 3rd floor, we have started furnishing a new large group room with round tables and blackboards. It will still take some time before it is ready, as workmen in the house use some of the floor space to store equipment for the future cleanroom laboratory.
We will finish it as soon as possible, probably end of January 2016.
The room is for all kinds of students - mainly for group work.
No permanent users – seats can be taken when needed and on a first-come-first-served daily basis.

Quiet rooms
Also on 3rd floor in building 1674, two small rooms have been furnished to be used as quiet rooms.
To be taken after the same principles as mentioned above.

Remember your private insurance

Basically students are not covered by the university insurances – nor on field trips and excursions.

An example: A student together with an employee do some field work as part of  his/her studies. They go by one of the department cars. An accident occurs. Any damages to the employee will be covered by the insurance – the student gets nothing!
The same is the case if an accident happens when students work in laboratories in connection with studies/teaching.

So – for your own good – it is rather IMPORTANT for you to have a private full-time liability and accident insurance.
