Re-enrolment

Re-enrolment is for those who have passed the first academic year of the degree programme they are applying for.

The pre-requisites for being re-enrolled are:

  • That you have passed what corresponds to the entire first academic year of the degree programme on which you wish to be re-enrolled
  • That you meet the current admission requirements for the degree programme
  • That you have been deregistered from the programme for at least five months before the programme you are applying for starts.
  • That there are empty places on the degree programme on which you wish to be re-enrolled
  • That you have improved your possibilities of completing the degree programme (if you were withdrawn from the programme)

When you apply for re-enrolment, the five-month rule applies. This rule means that you must have been deregistered from the programme for at least five months before the programme you are applying for starts.

Are you unsure whether you have passed the first  academic year?

Perhaps you are unsure whether what you have passed corresponds to the the first academic year. If you were previously enrolled on the programme at AU, the structure of the programme might have changed and the first academic year might now consist of different courses. If you have been enrolled on the degree programme at another university in Denmark, the first academic year at AU might be structured differently and consist of different courses than you have passed at your previous university.

If you are unsure whether you can get a credit transfer for the entire first academic year, we recommend you that you apply for both re-enrolment and for admission to the new programme. It is not a problem to apply for both of these things at the same time.

Special rules apply when you apply for a degree programme on which you have previously been enrolled. The rules that apply to you depend on how you were withdrawn from the degree programme.

Did you withdraw from the degree programme yourself?

If you withdrew from the programme yourself, you must apply for re-enrolment.

If you withdrew from the degree programme yourself but were due to be de-registered by the university, you must apply in the same way as if the university had de-registered you see below.

How to apply

To apply for re-enrolment, please find the type of programme called “Change of programme/transfer – Bachelor’s degree programmes/Master’s degree programmes” in the application system. Then find the degree programme on which you wish to be re-enrolled.

When you apply, you must upload the following:

  • An academic transcript with all examination attempts (transcript RA052U) (if you are not a former AU student)
  • A withdrawal letter or withdrawal confirmation from your university (if you are not a former AU  student)
  • Academic regulations or course descriptions of all courses (if you are not a former AU student)
  • An exam certificate for your upper-secondary school exam (if you are applying for a Bachelor’s degree programme)
  • Documentation that you meet language requirements, for example an upper-secondary school certificate (if you are applying for a Master’s degree programme)
  • Documentation that you have completed a Bachelor’s degree (if you are applying for a Master’s degree programme and did not do your Bachelor’s degree at AU)

Did the university withdraw you from the degree programme?

If you have previously been enrolled on the degree programme you are applying for and were withdrawn by the university, Aarhus University must assess whether you have significantly improved possibilities of completing the programme. This applies regardless of which university you were enrolled at.

Examples of reasons for being withdrawn from a degree programme are:

  • Having no remaining examination attempts
  • Inactivity
  • Exceeding the maximum degree completion time

You will only be able to start on the programme if the circumstances that prevented you completing the programme before have changed to such an extent that it will now be possible to complete the programme.

Aarhus University’s assessment of whether you have significantly improved study possibilities includes both academic and health considerations.

How to apply

To apply for re-enrolment, please find the type of programme called “Change of programme/transfer – Bachelor’s degree programmes/Master’s degree programmes” in the application system. Then find the degree programme on which you wish to be re-enrolled.

When you apply for re-admission, you must upload this form, in which you must describe the ways in which your possibilities to complete the degree programme have improved.

You must describe the factors that mean you are now in a position to complete the degree programme. This description must include:

  • The reason you did not complete the degree programme before
  • Why you believe you are now in a position to complete the programme, for example improvements in your health or your personal life.
  • The documentation you have to support this

Requirements for documentation of health-related issues

If illness or other health-related issues prevented you from completing your degree programme, relevant documentation can include a doctor’s certificate. The doctor’s certificate must include:

  • A description of how your health condition affected your ability to study
  • Information about your current condition, for example recovery from illness and further treatment
  • A clear indication of whether the medical assessment provided has been made on the basis of the doctor’s own examination or details provided by you
  • You name as well as your CPR number or date of birth
  • The doctor’s name, CVR number, signature and stamp
  • The date of issue

You must also upload the following
