Dear researchers, students and other interested parties,
You are cordially invited to join an afternoon Science & The Flavour of Aarhus talk with ecologist, wildlife photographer and National Geographic Explorer Jeff Kerby, followed by an interdisciplinary debate, co-organized by the Arctic Research Centre (ARC) at Aarhus University, Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) at University of Cambridge and the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS).
In his talk, Jeff Kerby will explore the science of shifting climates in the two polar regions, with a focus on how landscapes are being reshaped by vegetation change, animal behavior and human influences. It will reveal cutting-edge techniques in satellite and drone monitoring of landscapes, but also delve into the value and insights gained from expeditionary fieldwork.
His talk blends scientific lecture with photo narrative encompassing recent expeditions to Greenland and Antarctica, and their broader scientific context. Together, they reveal not only how these lands are responding to rapid climate change, but also surprising insights into the human story in these regions, past and present.
Join the Science & Flavour talk with Jeff Kerby (Scott Polar Research Institute) followed by discussion with anthropologist Janne Flora (Department of Anthropology) and Søren Rysgaard, centre director at Arctic Research Centre, and top up with networking over a refreshment and tastings of the Arctic.
📅WHEN: Monday, 8 December at 17:00 - 19:00
📍WHERE: The Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS), Høegh-Guldbergs Gade 6B, 8000 Aarhus C, Building 1632
