Zero tolerance

At AU, we place a high priority on treating each other with decency and respect, and we have zero tolerance for any form of harassment, bullying, violence or discrimination. No one should have to experience this.

It is a terrible experience for the victim, and it can have far-reaching consequences. The university must be a good place to study, work and play for all students and employees. We have a shared responsibility to create a positive and well-functioning academic environment and work environment.

Every year, students are exposed to harassment, bullying, violence or discrimination: not many, but one case is too many. You’re not alone if someone behaves  unacceptably to you: AU encourages you to seek help and support.

You have several options. You can contact your student counsellor. You can seek guidance from the Student Council’s Legal Aid service. You can also get help from the head of your department/school, the director of studies for your degree programme, and from other employees at your department/school. No matter who you turn to for help, you can be sure that it will be handled confidentially.
