If you receive SU (grant, student loans and completion loans) the grant is terminated when you complete your degree programme - regardless of whether you have any monthly SU grants left.
If you complete your degree programme on the first day of the month, you are not entitled to SU in the month in question. If you complete your degree programme after the first day of the month, you are entitled to SU in the whole month in which you graduate.
The degree programme is completed on the day you receive the assessment of your Master’s thesis.
If you complete your degree programme on the 16th or later in the month, you will also receive SU in the month following your graduation (if you have any monthly SU grants left).
Since you are not entitled to SU in the month following the completion of your degree programme, you are required to pay back this SU.
If you join an unemployment insurance fund no later than two weeks after you graduate, you are entitled to unemployment benefits or holiday benefits one month after you completed your degree programme.
If you join after the two week deadline, you will not be entitled to unemployment benefits until you have had a full-time job for one year after the date on which you joined.
That’s why it’s a good idea to apply for membership of the unemployment insurance fund well in advance of the day on which you complete your degree programme. This way, you are sure to be admitted from the day you graduate.
To be able to receive unemployment benefits, you also need to be registered at your local job centre. If you are unemployed, you must register at the job centre no more than one month after you completed your degree programme. You can register at jobnet.dk or by turning up at the job centre in person.
