It is your own responsibility to make sure that you fulfill these prerequisites. The teaching will not be delayed on the basis of any lacking knowledge.
BSc(B) students can apply for the following Summer University courses in STADS from January 15th to April 8th at 12 noon. If your registration is rejected, you don’t need to contact us. As long as you can see your courses in STADS, we will figure it out. In case of any problems, we will contact you.
You can take a maximum of 20 ects points at Summer University, but only one course per term. Each term has its own registration form. You can prioritize up to three courses in each term. Remember to check for important notifications for some courses in the column "info" in the self-service.
How to apply for one course: Prioritize minimum one and maximum ten courses in one term, or add a 1st priority in one term and another priority in another term (by using both forms).
How to apply for two courses: Add minimum one 1st priority in each term, by using both forms.
Adding a first priority in each term means that you want to take two courses and we will automatically sign you up for two courses, so do not do this unless you want two courses!
FAQ BSS registration forms
Am I guaranteed a seat at AU Summer University, I desperately need one course because I am going on an internship/exchange?
If you do not get a seat at your chosen courses during the first round due to i.e. overbooking or cancellation you are able to apply for courses with vacant seats in STADS from April 24th-26th. Most students get their first or second priority.
Okay then, but just to be sure to get a course I will add 10 priorities in each term, this way I technically have 20 priorities and will get a course either way!?
No, this will not be a smart solution if you only need one course. If you have more than one first priority we will automatically assume that this is because you need two courses and we will then enroll you in two courses. Once enrolled in a course you will need to apply for an exemption from the study board, which can take several weeks and a heavy paper workload, in order to be able to cancel your registration for the course you don’t need.
My first priority is in one term, but my other priorities are in another term, what do I do?
No problem! The system can handle that. Just apply for your 1st priority by using the correct form for the term and then go to the next form and add other priorities (without stating a 1st priority in the same term as your 2nd priority).
How can I make sure that I will get a combination of courses that adds up to the ECTS amount that I need?
If you need two courses and it need to give a total of, 10,15 or 20 and you therefore have a mix of courses, priorities in different terms and with a different ECTS load we will take a loot at how many ECTS points your two first priorities are. If we cannot give you your two first priorities, we will then try to give you a combination of lower priority courses that gives the same total amount of ECTS points as your two first priorities. A larger part of the allocation is however handled automatically via a STADS script, so we cannot guarantee that it will add up, but if you are allocated two courses that gives an unwanted of ECTS in total then do not hesitate to contact us and then we will sort it out.
Cand.merc student can apply for the following Summer University courses in STADS from January 15th to April 8th at 12 noon. If your registration is rejected, you don’t need to contact us. As long as you can see your courses in STADS, we will figure it out. In case of any problems, we will contact you.
The courses below, offered by the BTECH department, is also preapproved for cand.merc. The courses cannot be found in STADS. Instead, application for the course takes place via this link between January 15-April 8.
Course | Online/On campus | ECTS | Dates | Department |
Six Sigma Design and Innovation | Online | 10 | 26/7-13/8 | BTECH |
Python Fundamentals for Machine Learning | Online | 10 | 5/7-23/7 | BTECH |
Guide: The application system will automatically ask for a preapproval. As the course is already preapproved for your degree, you should upload a confirmation of enrollment from mystudies.au.dk instead.
If you are a Cand. Merc student, you can apply to both courses. Below is an explanation of the difference between the two courses:
"We offer two courses focused on Python. Intensive Introduction to Data Science in Python (IIP) and Python Fundamentals for Machine Learning (PML). IIP will assume a slightly stronger background in coding and mathematical and statistical foundation of Python and Machine Learning. PML will assume limited background in coding but more domain insight from e.g. manufacturing or mechanical/digital product development for data acquisition and pre-processing. IIP will move into deep learning principles around half into the course, PML will look slightly broader"
So, besides the academic difference and that fact that one of the courses is part of BTECH and the other is part of ECON, you also need to be aware that the ECON course is planned to take place on-Campus and the BTECH course will take place online. Unfortunately, we are not able to say at this point if the ECON course will be held on-campus or it will be converted to online, if restrictions do not allow us to have it on-campus.
As a Cand.Merc. student you cannot apply for the BTECH course in STADS, so to make the administrative application process easier, we kindly ask you to follow this procedure, if you want to apply for both courses and prioritize between them.
Scenario 1: you are a cand. Merc student and the only two courses you want to apply to at Summer University are the two Python courses. Please apply using this link. Here you can prioritize between the courses as you like. You will hear from us by the end of April, if you get a seat or not. Should you have more priorities you can put them in manually in step 6/7 in the application system (not STADS). The application system will automatically ask for a pre-approval. Since the course is already pre-approved for your studies, you can upload a confirmation of enrollment from mitstudie.au.dk. (You can make it by choosing transcripts and then choose confirmation of enrollment from the drop down menu and then “create PDF”).
Scenario 2: When you read this, you have already applied for the ECON Python course in STADS, but you would like to apply to the BTECH course as well. In this case we suggest that you deregister from the ECON Python course in STADS and then follow the procedure above (Scenario 1).
Scenario 3: the Python courses are not among your two first priorities. To be honest, your chances of getting a seat in either of the courses are very low. We advise you to not put the two python course on your application and just apply as normal in STADS, via mitstudie.dk.
Scenario 4: you are only interested in the ECON Python course.
In this case you just apply for the course in STADS and priorities any other course you want to apply to.
What are your chances of getting a seat in either of the two courses:
We know that you are wondering what is the best thing to do and how you will have the best chance of getting a seat in either of the 2 courses and certainly understand that. Below is some background knowledge in order for you to make an informed decision:
The ECON Python is only offered to Cand. Merc students, there are 40 available seats and if there are more applicants than seats, seats will be distributed by randomized draw. (Usually there are 100+ applicants).
The BTECH course is offered for all students, but BTECH and international students are prioritized. As a Cand. Merc student you are third in line for the course. However, usually there are not so many BTECH and International students.
No matter what you choose, you are probably going to need a bit of luck in the randomized draw in order to get a seat in both courses. Our best advice is therefor to prioritized them based on the academic and assess which course you want, without calculating which course you have the best chance of getting a seat in, and that putting this course as you r first priority.
We know that it is not the best solution, having two application systems and we do understand if it seems very confusing. But we are very happy to offer 2 Python courses this year, and this is the only way we can administer registration for both of them. You are always welcome to send us an email, if you have any doubts or questions. But before you do that, please read the text above and see if you can find the answer there.

Pre-approved courses from other study programmes
Your board of studies has not yet approved any courses from other study programmes, if they do we will state it here.
It is however still possible to apply for courses from other study programmes, but you will need to apply for an individual pre-approval via mitstudie.au.dk first.
You must apply for pre-approved courses through the online application system and not STADS.
No! None of the courses are first come first served.
Unless otherwise announced in the course description found in the course catalogue, seats in any given course will be distributed to the following groups in descending order:
Within these groups the seats will distributed as described in the course description.
This also means that technically it does not matter if you apply by January 15th or April 8th as long as you apply within the deadline April 8th at 12.00 (noon)
You are free to change and cancel your STADS registrations as long as the registration is still open in STADS. After the deadline April 8th at 12 noon it is only possible to cancel/change a course registration according to the rules at your board of studies, which are the same rules as for semester courses.
No, it is unfortunately not possible to take a course as extra-curricular activity. This is also why you can only register for a course if you have the space in your study programme and within the group of courses that the course belongs to.
This is most likely due to the fact that you don’t have enough space in your study programme for the course you are trying to register for. But please send us an e-mail at summeruniversity@au.dk then we will check it for you and guide you to what you can do.
First of all you need to check if the course you are interested in, is in fact offered by your study programme, if not, you cannot find the course in STADS but must apply via AU Summer University's online application system.
Remember that in this case the course needs to be pre-approved by your board of studies before you can be registered for a course not offered by your study programme.
In that case you have to make two different applications. One in STADS for the course offered by your own study programme and one in AU Summer University's application system, for the one you have gotten pre-approved.
If you are a bachelor's student who graduates this summer and will start on your master's degree right after it is a possibility to take a master course during the summer before you actually start your degree, to get a head start on your master's degree. However, this does not apply if you are applying for any of the following master degrees:
- ITKO
- Cand.merc. (all tracks)
- Cand.soc.
- Cand.merc.aud.
To get a seat in a summer course, you need to do the following.
1. Apply for regular admission to the master's degree you wish to take if you have not already done so. Remember that the application deadline is at midnight between March 1st and March 2nd.
2. Sign up for the AU Summer University before April 1st in our application system through this link. Choose Aarhus University student as student type and when the system asks you for a preapproval, you should upload the receipt you got upon applying for the master's degree.
In mid-April you will receive an answer from AU Summer University letting you know which course you got a seat in. After this you will be able to see the course in STADS.
You will receive notice by June 1st at the latest whether or not you were accepted to the master's program. You have until June 15th to confirm your seat in the program. (NB! If you have applied to master's degree program where you do not have legal right of admission, this of course only holds if you get accepted to the program.)
Around June 22nd you will get a message saying that you have been enrolled in the master's degree program. After this, your registration for AU Summer University will fall into place.
Until you are officially enrolled, the registration is STADS will say 'denied' even though you have received notice that you have a seat in the course. But there is no need to worry. This does not mean that you are not signed up for the course.
Please bear in mind that students who are already enrolled in a master's program have priority right for courses with limited seats as opposed to students with a temporary enrollment.
