News for Students 2016-1

Geoscience Day

The students’ great commitment in Geoscience Day on 13 May is highly appreciated. Thank you for taking your time to participate and for, some of you, making presentations.

Employed Students

No contract - no work

It's mentioned before - but it is IMPORTANT:

  • Never start working for a researcher or a technician, unless you have an employment contract
  • If you work, and you are not employeed, it is not possible to pay you any wages - and you will not be covered by insurance either.
Contact the Secretariat for further information.

Pay

Before having your pay, you must inform the secretariat (sekretariat@geo.au.dk) how many hours you worked within a given period. When the secretariat has reported your working hours in the pay system, the money will be transferred to your account.

Wages are paid twice a month. This table shows deadlines/dates for reporting and payment. NOTE – it may take a few days between your mail and the secretariat’s registration – so please send your information well in advance of a deadline. Otherwise, you must wait for the next payroll run.

Do you know Studentwelfare.au.dk?

Studentwelfare.au.dk is:

  • a site for students at Aarhus University
  • a portal which brings together all the services which are available if you want to improve your student life
  • set up by counsellors and advisory bodies at Aarhus University
  • and it's free!

The Master's Degree thesis

So far, submittance of your Master’s degree thesis included a copy to the library - a copy to be available for loans at Geoscience.
In future, you must submit this copy to the secretariat.

No parties in teaching rooms and laboratories!

It is not allowed to use classrooms and laboratories for social events.
All gatherings / parties MUST be held in the student canteen.
Read the rules concerning use of the department's premises.

Forgotten bits and pieces

Lost / left items found around the house should be given to the secretriat, where they are collectedin Lene Kjeldsteen’s office. – So please contact her, if you were unfortunate to lose something.

Department cars

Car for student events
It you want permission to borrow a car in connection with a trip organized by and for students, you must submit a written application describing the scientific program and specifying the name of the driver. Based on this it is decided whether you can borrow a car.

Guidelines for driving department cars
In each of our cars is a leaflet with information regarding use of the cars. It is important that you know these guidelines. The same information is also available on the website: http://geo.medarbejdere.au.dk/en/transport-and-procurement/department-cars/guidelines-and-useful-information/.

Logbooks
DO NOT FORGET to fill out the logbook when you return one of the cars.
The logbooks are regularly audited, and every kilometer must be accounted.

Student canteen

A kind request from the cleaning staff
Please, put the chairs up under the tables on Fridays before leaving the student canteen. It makes it so much easier for the cleaning staff washing the floor on Monday morning.

The library

The Geoscience partner from AU Library, Morten Hjorth Gad, is available in our partners office, 1672-232, on Mondays between 08.30 and 15.30. As students, feel free to use this service.
Other weekdays you are welcome to contact Morten at the library in Ny Munkegade (mhg@au.dk).

Study administration at Geoscience

Changed office hours
As usual, Tina Veirup, ST administrative center/courses and exam, is available on Tuesdays in our partners office 1672-232 – yet with a small change in her office hours – which are now from 10 to 12.
