How to apply

Important

Before you apply: start by checking out available seats via MoveONs database. The database will be updated with available study abroad positions when the application round opens, which is approx. one month prior to the application deadline.

Apply: via the application portal in MoveOn

Confirm your seat: if you are allocated a seat, you must accept your offer via the application portal in MoveON. If you do not accept the study abroad position within the deadline, the study abroad position is waived. You will receive further information via your AU email if you are allocated a seat.

Please note: you will only receive one offer. If you refuse your offer you will not receive another. Due to corona there are still uncertainties, and we we cannot guarantee that your exchange will not be affected. If your host university decides to cancel teaching, we will unfortunately not be able to offer you another option.

Have you already been assigned an exchange position?

AL information about your host university in still available in AU's exchange agreement database.

Application deadlines

The deadline for applications to go on exchanges through AU's agreements depends on when you are going but also what you are studying. There are two application deadlines a year but please be aware that not all students can apply by both deadlines.

  • 1 May for the following spring - e.g. you must apply no later than 1 May 2022 for exchange spots in the spring semester 2023. The application round opens 1 April 2022.
  • 1 December for the following academic year - e.g. you must apply no later than 1 December 2022 for exchange spots in the autumn semester 2023 and the spring semester 2024. The application round opens 1 November 2022.

Please note that for International Business Communication students at the Faculty of Arts the deadline to apply for exchange is always 1 May.

If possible, we recommend that all applicants apply by the 1 December deadline. By the 1 December deadline, you can apply for an exchange either for one semester (autumn or spring) or for a full academic year.

Allocation criteria

The study places are allocated on the basis of the various criteria, among others:

  • Your GPA
    • Your GPA will be calculated in 5 December and is a weighted average of your marks
    • if you are a postgraduate student who has not yet received any marks at AU, your GPA will be calculated from your bachelor degree
  • number of years of study
  • special requirements under the exchange agreement, e.g. a motivation or a statement, will always appear from the MoveON database.
