Tuition free summerschools through AU

Each year, AU is offered tuition free places on summer schools in selected countries (typically Europe, India and China).There is no general deadline, so please check with each university of interest for information on application details, deadlines, pre-requisites etc. by clicking the links below.

The study places are allocated on the basis of the various criteria, among others:

  • GPA
  • number of years of study
  • special requirements under the exchange agreement, e.g. a motivation or a statement

Below you can see the available spots for Summer 2018. We advertise positions continually on this website and will update availabilities between January and March for the summer of 2019.

King's College, London 2019

London Undergraduate Summer School: Session One: 1 July – 19 July 2019 / Session Two: 22 July – 9 August 2019

The Undergraduate Summer School teaches 30 different modules spanning subject areas such as health and science, maths and engineering, law, governance, business management, culture and ancient languages.

All modules are fully assessed and consist of a minimum of 45 contact hours. Students will receive a final mark on their Participant Record of Achievement (transcript). Each module is equivalent to 3-4 US credits or 7.5 ECTS.

The courses within our summer academy originate in Swedish culture and an innovative mindset. They are workshop-oriented and have a strong student focus. Courses are offered on undergraduate level. All courses are 7.5 credit full-time courses, taught in English and many have general entry requirements. Please check the course list here.

Nordic Centre Fudan, China 2019


AU is a member of the Nordic Centre at Fudan University in Shanghai. The following two summer courses are available through the Nordic Centre in the summer of 2019:

1)   Chinese Politics and Society

Dates: 27 June -10 July 2019
Level: Undergraduate and graduate
Participation fee: RMB 800

The summer course Chinese Politics and Society is an intensive two-week course at Nordic Centre, Fudan University. Nordic Centre is a collaboration between Fudan University and 27 Nordic universities, and facilitates cooperation within education, research, and culture.

The course provides students with fundamental knowledge about Chinaˈs political landscape from the founding of the People's Republic in 1949 till today, and it gives students insight into China‘s role both locally and globally

The course  is intended for BA-level students with little or no previous knowledge about China.

The course is taught in English by Chinese and Nordic teachers, and students who apply for the course must therefore have a good command of both written and spoken English.

2)   Doing Business in China

Dates: 12  -25 July 2019

The Nordic Centre Summer Course Business and Innovation in China is an intensive two-week course for MA-level students at member universities of Nordic Centre. The course is designed to provide Nordic students with an opportunity to gain insight into the exciting and ever-changing business world in China. The course includes both an academic and a practical hands-on approach to business life in China. It is intended for students with little or no previous knowledge about China.


The course is taught in English by both Chinese and Nordic teachers, featuring lectures by business people and visits to Chinese and Nordic companies based in the Shanghai region.

The course includes:

• approximately 50 hours of lectures/presentations/ visits

• group work assignments

• project report (app. 5000 words, to be handed in after the course)

• supervision offered by instructors

• required readings of app. 300 pages (details will be distributed well before the beginning of the course

Nordic Centre India 2019

For 2019 Nordic Centre India is continuing it's short-term summer courses for Nordic students in India. The courses are as follows:


Contemporary India: An Interdisciplinary Introduction Course
India Partner: Study in India Programme, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad

Dates: June 30th to July 27th, 2019
Capacity: 50 students
This is an undergraduate level introductory course that serves as a primer to the changing dynamics in India by focusing on a wide range of topics that have immediate relevance, including politics, economy, society, religion, and development. Students will learn and discuss contemporary trends in Indian politics and the effects it has on the economy and various socio-cultural stratifications characteristics of India. This intensive course will feature daily lectures, field visits both rural and urban, and various other engaging academic exercises. 

Gender and Society in Contemporary India
India Partner: Study in India Programme, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad

Dates: July 14th to August 10th 2019
Capacity: 50 students
This is a postgraduate level course that aims to provide and overview of issues related to gender and sexuality in India from a feminist perspective. The diversity of India will be a lens through which the course will explore issues. The themes being considered include Integrating Theory and Praxis in Gender Studies, Gender Violence, Gender and Development, Intersectionality: Caste, Class and Gender, Gender, Religion and Politics, Body, Sexuality and Representations of Gender. Students will learn more about the themes via lectures, readings, films and field trips.

Exploring the Environment in India: Issues in Sustainability
India Partner: Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore
Dates: June 23rd to July 20th, 2019
Capacity: 24 students
This is a post graduate level course that introduces students to the context and challenges related to environmental sustainability in India's urban and rural environment. The aim of the programmes is to equip students with the contextual knowledge to answer the question: “How does India manage its environment?” The course will primarily attempt to provide an overview of the policies and narratives surrounding environmental management in India, a critical analysis of the current challenges, a glimpse of the possible options for the near future along with the approaches adopted in managing environment in India.  Besides, we have designed the course keeping in view Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to match the global agenda.  SDGs aims to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Hindi Language Programme 
India Partner: INLANSO, Centre for the Study of Indian Languages and Society, Varanasi
Dates: June 30th to July 27th, 2019
Capacity: 20 students
This is a four-week-long intensive summer Hindi language course for students at A1, A2 and B1 levels of Hindi. The language programme focuses on the principle of combining classroom knowledge with outdoor practice with an emphasis on making students speak and use Hindi starting from the very first day of study. Special attention is paid to cultural and societal interactions so that students get the context of the language they are learning to speak. 


The courses are available in the 7.5 ECTS variant and the 10 ECTS variants. The course structure remains the same with the exception of additional coursework for students opting for the 10 ECTS variant. Please bear in mind that if you choose the 7,5 ECTS variant only 5 ECTS can be transferred towards your degree at AU.

ZJU Scholars Summer Research Program 2019


Zhejiang University (ZJU) offers up to 2 admitted students with a scholarship for students from AU to participate in a research project of their choice at ZJU for 8 weeks from June 18 to August 13, 2019.

The scholarship includes:

√Waived application fee and program tuition fee

√Free on-campus accommodation from June 17 to August 14, 2019(double room)

√A living allowance of 2800RMB (approximately 400USD) per student

How to apply:

1. You must start by finding a professor, who is willling to supervise your project. Please use the 2019 ZJU Scholars Faculty Profile. Your supervisor must sign this letter of approval.

2. When you have obtained the letter of approval, please send it to no later than 12 noon on 1 March, 2019.

3. We will send you a confirmation of nomination, which you must submit with your application to ZJU no later than 10 March. Please check the ZJU Scholars Research program information.

Fudan International Summer Sessions 2019

Fudan University International Summer Session 2018 (4 July- 3 August) will provide a 4-week course study and cultural experience to students from all over the world. Students will have the opportunity to get to know China, experience Shanghai and be part of the Fudan community.

Fudan University International Summer Session 2019 offers 27 content courses, 3 different levels of Chinese language courses and 2 PE courses. In addition we offer historical and cultural visits. The content courses will cover a range of topics in History and Culture, Society and Politics, Business and Economy, Law and Science and Technology. Each content course is designed as a 39-credithour course (except for the one-credit course which is 18 credit hours), each level of Chinese language as a 40-credit-hour course (2 credits), and each PE course as an 18-credit-hour course. Students can choose 1-3 content courses, and the Chinese language courses and PE courses are optional.

After successful completion of the course study, students will be awarded a program certificate and an official transcript from Fudan University. Students who wish to transfer Fudan International Summer Session credits back to their home institutions are advised to consult with the appropriate academic authorities at their own institutions in advance.

Tsinghua University, Beijing 2019

Experiencing China: Summer Programme 2019

Located in Beijing, the national capital of China, Tsinghua University has a rich and interesting history. Tsinghua was founded in 1911, and is firmly among the ranks of China’s best universities.

Programme Information

The two-week summer programme offers a star team of multidisciplinary tutors who will facilitate team projects, site visits to spaces of contemporary or historical significance and round-table discussions. The programme will culminate in a forum to be designed and facilitated by students themselves. The forum will exhibit their discoveries and insights in China, and promote their collaborative problem-solving proposals developed during the programme. Scholarship Details

The scholarship covers the following:

· Registration fee
· Tuition fee
· Housing (on-campus accommodation for international students for two-week period, mainly en-suite single rooms)
· Basic accident insurance for two-week period in Beijing

Students are responsible for self-funding airfare costs, healthcare costs, medical insurance, tourism and living expenses.

Chinese University, Hong Kong 2019


Six tuition free places at the International Summer School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong are available to students enrolled at Aarhus University.


Two unique sessions will be offered at ISS 2019. The July Session, which lasts for five weeks, offers 27 courses in five academic areas taught by outstanding CUHK and visiting professors from overseas universities. It will be followed by the three week August Session, which exclusively offers intensive Chinese language courses. All courses will be taught in English apart from Chinese language courses.

The wide variety of cultural activities are always the favourite among students of the ISS. City tours, cooking classes and Chinese calligraphy class are just some of the examples of the many activities available that offer students opportunities to make friends with peers from around the world while at the same time get a glimpse of Chinese and Hong Kong culture.

The courses offered at the International Summer Program are taught at bachelor's level. See list of courses.

As a guideline one CUHK credit is the equivalent of 2 ECTS point. However, please note that it is the board of studies at your department that decides how many ECTS credits you will be awarded for the course.

There is no tuition fee but all other expenses connected with the summer school will be the responsability of the participating students.

Cambridge Summer Institute and Oxford Summer Institute


Oriel College (University of Oxford) and Magdalene College (University of Cambridge)  offer in total 20 scholarships (10 for Oxford, 10 for Cambridge) in the amount of 1,000 GBP towards the tuition fee for AU students who wish to attend the Summer Institute at Oriel College (University of Oxford) or the Cambridge Summer Institute at Magdalene College (University of Cambridge) this summer.

Tuition fees: 2.190 £

Accommodation including full board: 1,300 for a two-week course

Students receiving scholarship must stay in College Accommodation in Oriel College Oxford or Magdalene College respectively

ECTS: the courses are approx. 5 ECTS
