Transfer for Nat-, Agro- and MSc in Engineering students

Transfer may be applied for by students at another university than Aarhus University who wish to be transferred to the same or similar degree programme at Aarhus University.

Change of study programme may be applied for by students at Aarhus University who wish to change their studies from one Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme to another. The change must not be considered simply a change of track/line or specialisation.

Applicants with non-Danish qualifications
It is not possible to apply for transfer with non-Danish qualifications. If you wish to transfer to Aarhus University from an non-Danish institution, you must apply for regular admission. If you are granted admission, Aarhus University will always assess whether credit transfers may be granted for previously passed courses or subjects.

Application on the background of part-time or available student place scheme single course
It is not possible to apply for a change of programme/transfer if the student has passed the entire first year of the degree programme through part-time study (including available student place scheme single courses). Instead, you must apply for admission on normal terms. If you are admitted, a mandatory evaluation of transfer credit eligibility will be performed.

Requirements for Bachelor's students

Bachelor’s students must meet the following requirements in order for Aarhus University to process a request for transfer or change of study programme:

  • At the expected time of transfer, you must have passed all examinations equivalent to the first year of studies on the Bachelor’s programme to which you wish to transfer.
We recommend you to acquaint yourself with the academic regulations of the Bachelor’s programme to which you wish to transfer in order to find out how comparable it is to the Bachelor’s programme you are transferring from. AU may, under special circumstances, allow change of study or transfer, even though the applicant has not passed study elements equivalent to the first year of study. You must then upload an application for exemption, when you apply for change of study or transfer through the digital application portal.
You may also contact the student counsellors at Arts, Science and Technology, Health and Aarhus BSS for further information.
  • If you have not completed courses equivalent of the entire first year of the study programme at Aarhus University to which you are transferring, you can apply for enrolment on the study programme through the Coordinated Enrolment System (KOT). Here, you will also be asked to upload results and course descriptions from the courses you have passed on Bachelor’s level with a view to obligatory credit assessment.
  • There must be available slots at the relevant semester of the Bachelor’s degree programme to which you wish to transfer. If there are more qualified applicants than available slots, the applicant(s) selected will be chosen by lot. Special conditions apply for Bachelor’s programmes with restricted admission.
  • You must meet the general and specific admission requirements of the Bachelor’s degree programme to which you wish to transfer before commencement of studies.
  • If you have been expelled from the university, you must upload the letter of expulsion you received from the university.
  • You must not be restricted by the rules regarding the Master's Degree rule.
  • If you have been administratively withdrawn from the same Master’s programme you wish to apply for, Aarhus University must assess whether or not you have significantly improved your possibility of completing the degree programme based on a specific individual academic assessment. This assessment is made as part of your application for admission as one of the criteria for admission. Please fill out this form regarding withdrawal and improved study possibilities and upload it to your application. This applies whether or not you have been enrolled in this programme at Arhus University or another Danish University or educational institution. It also applies if you are still enrolled but could have been administratively withdrawn due to inactivity, used examination attempts, exceeded maximum time of study or permanent expulsion

Application guides

Application deadlines

There are two annual application deadlines:

  • 1 March with a view to commencement of studies in August/September
  • 15 October with a view to commencement of studies in January/February

Please note that not all degree programmes are open for commencement of studies in January/February. Master’s programmes with winter admission will be announced.

Application for transfer or change of study programme after the regular deadline
For some programmes, but not all, the application deadline will be extended (2nd round admissions). Please note your application will only be processed if the programme is open for 2nd round admissions, even though it is technically possible to submit an application to all programmes. If not, you will receive a letter of rejection.

Reply to your application

Applications for transfer and study change are processed regularly.

However, applications are not processed until after the application deadlines due to the process of clarifying of the number of available slots on the study programme in question.

In addition, especially for study programmes with restricted admission, our reply regarding admission or rejection can only be sent out very late, for some programmes not until right before or even after commencement of studies.

You have 1 week to accept a possible admission offer through the application system.

Tuition fees

Non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens without a permanent residence permit in Denmark are liable to pay tuition fees during their enrolment at Aarhus University.
