Summer University

At AU Summer University you can either take a course offered by your own study programme or a course offered by another study prgramme than your own.

If a course you are interested in is offered by your own programme you must apply for it in the stads self-service from 15/1-1/4 2020.

If it is offered by another programme you need to have the course pre-approved and then apply for it via our application system from 15/1-1/4 2020.

Some courses from another study programme than yours may already be pre-approved for your study and if this is the case you do not need to apply for a pre-approval before you apply for the course.

Find out which courses you can take by finding your study programme  in the box below. Start by clicking on your faculty and then find your programme from the list.

Transition from MACC to CM SC in 2020

if you are a MA CC student, applying for a transfer to the CM SC in 2020 (read more here), these are the three courses you can take at AU Summer University:

You can apply for these courses from January 15 - February 1. We will notify you which of the courses you got in due time so you know it before you the CM SC deadline (March 1st).

How to apply

1. Create a user in our application system and choose "Aarhus University student as student type.

2. Prioritize between the three courses (you can add two from the list and then manually write your third priority in the comment section on the last page of the application system).

3. When the system asks you to upload a preliminary approval you have to upload a confirmation of enrollment from stads (you can create it easily yourself in the stads self-service). this way we can see that you are a MA CC student. You do not need a pre-approval in order to apply, the courses are already approved for MA CC students.

15 seats are reserved for MA CC students who want to transfer to the CM SC in each course. so if you prioritize alle three courses we expect to be able to offer everyone who applies before February 1st a seat.

Please notice that you have to apply before February 1st not April 1st, this is in order to be able to let you know before you have to apply for the CM SC. all other students than MA CC students applying for the CM SC can still apply before April 1st.

Bsc in Economics and Business Administration

The following Bachelor courses are offered to BSc(B) students. You do not need a pre-approval to apply for these courses. You must apply for these courses via mit.au. following the same procedure as when you register for regular electives. You can apply between January 15th - April 1st.

You will receive information whether you have gotten a seat in week 17. In case you do not get a seat at one of your chosen courses, you are able to apply again from April 24th-26th and afterwards be notified. Thus you will know whether you have a seat at AU Summer University or not before applying for courses for the autumn semester (May 1-5).

Pre-approved courses from other study programmes

Your board of studies has not yet approved any courses from other study programmes, if they do we will state it here.
It is however still possible to apply for courses from other study programmes, but you will need to apply for an individual pre-approval via mit.au.dk first.
You must apply for pre-approved courses through the online application system and not STADS.

STADS self-service application guide

You can take a maximum of 20 ects points at Summer University, but only one course per term. Each term has its own registration form. You can prioritize up to three courses in each term. Remember to check for important notifications for some courses in the column "info" in the self-service.

How to apply for one course: Prioritize minimum one and maximum ten courses in one term, or add a 1st priority in one term and another priority in another term (by using both forms).

How to apply for two courses: Add minimum one 1st priority in each term, by using both forms.

Adding a first priority in each term means that you want to take two courses and we will automatically sign you up for two courses, so do not do this unless you want two courses!

FAQ BSS registration forms
Am I guaranteed a seat at AU Summer University, I desperately need one course because I am going on an internship/exchange?

If you do not get a seat at your chosen courses during the first round due to i.e. overbooking or cancellation you are able to apply for courses with vacant seats in STADS from April 24th-26th. Most students get their first or second priority.

Okay then, but just to be sure to get a course I will add 10 priorities in each term, this way I technically have 20 priorities and will get a course either way!?

No, this will not be a smart solution if you only need one course. If you have more than one first priority we will automatically assume that this is because you need two courses and we will then enroll you in two courses. Once enrolled in a course you will need to apply for an exemption from the study board, which can take several weeks and a heavy paper workload, in order to be able to cancel your registration for the course you don’t need.

My first priority is in one term, but my other priorities are in another term, what do I do?

No problem! The system can handle that. Just apply for your 1st priority by using the correct form for the term and then go to the next form and add other priorities (without stating a 1st priority in the same term as your 2nd priority).

How can I make sure that I will get a combination of courses that adds up to the ECTS amount that I need?

If you need two courses and it need to give a total of, 10,15 or 20 and you therefore have a mix of courses, priorities in different terms and with a different ECTS load we will take a loot at how many ECTS points your two first priorities are. If we cannot give you your two first priorities, we will then try to give you a combination of lower priority courses that gives the same total amount of ECTS points as your two first priorities. A larger part of the allocation is however handled automatically via a STADS script, so we cannot guarantee that it will add up, but if you are allocated two courses that gives an unwanted of ECTS in total then do not hesitate to contact us and then we will sort it out.

BSc - Top-up

It is not possible for top-up students to take a course at AU Summer University towards a degree, since the top-up study programme consists of mandatory courses that are not offered at AU Summer University. The courses at AU Summer University are designed as elective courses and in the top-up programme you do not have elective courses.

So, since it is not possible to have any of the courses we offer inserted into your top-up degree, the only option to take courses at Summer University is if you pay for it, according to Danish law.

The course will not be inserted into your diploma or degree at AU - but you will receive a separate official AU single subject diploma upon completion of the course, which can be used as an appendix to your degree diploma.

To apply for a course as a fee-paying student you have to apply via this link and choose freemover as applicant type (the system will then ask you for your transcript, english language proficiency and copy of your passport, since you are already an AU student you can just upload your academic transcript as all three document types, thus you have to upload the same document three times). You can find the fee for each course on this page.

Msc in Economics and Business administration

The Master courses listed below are offered by the Department of Management

You can apply for these courses in stads and they do not require a pre-approval. You must apply for these courses via mit.au.dk following the same procedure as when you register for regular electives. You can apply between January 15th - April 1st. Remember to check in the course catalogue if a course has overlaps to other courses and if a course is not offered to your specific cand.merc programme before you sign up. You can take, 5, 10, 15 or 20 ECTS credits at Summer University. However you can only take one course in each term, so if you wish to take two courses they must not be in the same term. Also you must have space for the credits in your study programme, otherwise your registration will be rejected.

Application FAQ

Are the courses first come - first served?/How are the seats allocated?

No! None of the courses are first come first served.

Unless otherwise announced in the course description found in the course catalogue, seats in any given course will be distributed to the following groups in descending order:

  • Aarhus University students from primary program or related education (see course catalogue)
  • Aarhus University students from any other study program
  • Students from other Danish universities applying to take the course as a credit module as well as students  nominated through an exchange agreement or other partnership agreement
  • Free movers and other Danish applicants (Tomplads)

Within these groups the seats will distributed as described in the course description.

This also means that technically it does not matter if you apply by January 15th or April 1st as long as you apply within the deadline <April 1st at 23.59.

Can I change/cancel my registration?

You are free to change and cancel your STADS registrations as long as the registration is still open in STADS. After the deadline April 1st it is only possible to cancel/change a course registration according to the rules at your board of studies, which are the same rules as for semester courses.

Is it possible to take a course and not have the ECTS inserted into my study programme?

No, it is unfortunately not possible to take a course as extra-curricular activity. This is also why you can only register for a course if you have the space in your study programme and within the group of courses that the course belongs to.

My STADS registration is rejected, what should I do?

This is most likely due to the fact that you don’t have enough space in your study programme for the course you are trying to register for. But please send us an e-mail at summeruniversity@au.dk then we will check it for you and guide you to what you can do.

I can’t find the course I am interested in in STADS?

First of all you need to check if the course you are interested in, is in fact offered by your study programme, if not, you cannot find the course in STADS but must apply via AU Summer University's online application system.

Remember that in this case the course needs to be pre-approved by your board of studies before you can be registered for a course not offered by your study programme.

What if I want to apply for a course offered by my own study programme and a course that is pre-approved?

In that case you have to make two different applications. One in STADS for the course offered by your own study programme and one in AU Summer University's application system, for the one you have gotten pre-approved.

Can I take a master level Summer University course before I start my master’s degree?

If you are a bachelor's student who graduates this summer and will start on your master's degree right after it is a possibility to take a master course during the summer before you actually start your degree, to get a head start on your master's degree. However, this does not apply if you are applying for any of the following master degrees:

- ITKO

- Cand.merc. (all tracks)

- Cand.soc.

- Cand.merc.aud.

To get a seat in a summer course, you need to do the following.

1. Apply for regular admission to the master's degree you wish to take if you have not already done so. Remember that the application deadline is at midnight between March 1st and March 2nd.

2. Sign up for the AU Summer University before April 1st in our application system through this link. Choose Aarhus University student as student type and when the system asks you for a preapproval, you should upload the receipt you got upon applying for the master's degree.

In mid-April you will receive an answer from AU Summer University letting you know which course you got a seat in. After this you will be able to see the course in STADS.

You will receive notice by June 1st at the latest whether or not you were accepted to the master's program. You have until June 15th to confirm your seat in the program. (NB! If you have applied to master's degree program where you do not have legal right of admission, this of course only holds if you get accepted to the program.)

Around June 22nd you will get a message saying that you have been enrolled in the master's degree program. After this, your registration for AU Summer University will fall into place.

Until you are officially enrolled, the registration is STADS will say 'denied' even though you have received notice that you have a seat in the course. But there is no need to worry. This does not mean that you are not signed up for the course.

Please bear in mind that students who are already enrolled in a master's program have priority right for courses with limited seats as opposed to students with a temporary enrollment.
