Staff can now charge electric and hybrid cars at AU
Members of staff and guests can now charge their electric or hybrid cars for a set length of time while parked at AU. A total of 25 EV charging bays have been established across five staff parking areas on AU’s Aarhus campus, and there are plans to introduce them in other locations. If you commute to and from the university in an electric or hybrid car, you can now charge your vehicle for the journey home whilst you’re at work. The Danish Building and Property Agency, which owns the university’s buildings, has installed a total of 25 dual EV charging bays in five staff and guest parking areas across AU’s Aarhus campus.
Park for a maximum of four hours (or until your car battery is fully charged)
So that as many people as possible can benefit from the new charging stations, you may charge your electric or hybrid car:
- for a maximum of four hours (requires a valid parking disc)
- until your car battery is fully charged
From Monday to Friday between 07:00 and 17:00, the charging bays are reserved for members of staff and guests with a valid AU parking permit. Between 17:00 and 07:00 and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, the charging bays may be used by all electric and hybrid car drivers, regardless of whether they hold a valid AU parking permit – in line with AU’s general rules for using staff carparks outside standard working hours.
The four-hour rule applies around the clock in the EV charging bays, which are marked with a red border on the black ParkZone parking sign. Your car must be charging if it is parked in a charging bay.
The new parking regulations for charging bays will come into effect on September 9

Get an overview of the EV charging bays at AU in Aarhus
The 25 new charging bays have a charging power of 22 or 11kW. They are located in the following places:
- Tåsingegade 3 by building 1447: 6 charging bays
- Fuglesangs Allé at the main entrance by building 2632: 3 charging bays
- Gustav Wieds Vej by building 1590: 6 charging bays
- Dalgas Avenue 4 by building 3410: 4 charging bays
- Trøjborgvej 82 by Ringgaden: 6 charging bays
Options for installing charging stations outside protected areas in the University Park are currently being investigated.
The charging stations are supplied by Clever, who won the tender issued by the Danish Building and Property Agency to provide charging stations in Aarhus. Find information on prices and payment methods on Clever’s website

More charging stations on the way across AU
Members of staff in Aarhus are the first to benefit from the opportunity to charge their cars on campus, but they won’t be the last. There are plans to install EV charging stations at more of AU’s locations across the country. At AU Viborg, Norlys has won the tender issued by the Danish Building and Property Agency to operate charging stations and is in the process of installing them. More information about charging and parking rules will be available soon.
Plans to install charging stations in Herning, Emdrup, Flakkebjerg and Risø are still being finalised.
