Tragic fatal accident in the University Park
A twenty-year-old female cyclist has died of injuries suffered in a traffic accident in the University Park on Thursday 5 March.
After turning on to Carl Holst-Knudsens Vej from Nørrebrogade, the cyclist apparently overlooked her duty to give way and collided with a car as she cycled further into Bartholins Allé. Cyclists are currently being redirected through the University Park because of roadworks on Nørrebrogade in connection with the preparations for the construction of the new light rail.
The twenty-year-old received first aid at the scene of the accident and was subsequently taken to hospital. The injuries she sustained were so serious that she passed away on Friday.
Witnesses to the accident who have not been offered psychological assistance are encouraged to contact Anders Moestrup at 2778 2850 or akm@au.dk.
Because of the roadworks on Nørrebrogade, it is particularly important to be aware of traffic conditions in the University Park.
In cooperation with the City of Aarhus, Aarhus Letbane (light rail) and the East Jutland police, Aarhus University is investigating what steps can be taken to improve the safety of the traffic diversion where the accident took place.
