The Danish invention Grandma-PC is a big hit among the non-tech savvy

DukaPC, an invention originating from Aarhus, is a super simple PC specifically designed for people with little to no IT knowledge. It's so easy to use that it's gained worldwide recognition.

Since the creation of the dukaPC, the small company behind it has earned the Red Herring Top 100 Europe Award 2012, which is a prize reserved for the top 100 most innovative and promising technology companies in Europe.

DukaPC's CEO, Erik Hougard, can hardly believe that his small company of 14 employees made it through the long elimination race among European-wide competition.

DukaPC has developed a PC where everything superflous is stripped away. The "Grandmother-PC" has only the most necessary and basic functions and is so easy to use that anyone can immediately sit in front of it and go.

The computer is built into the screen and has its own modem, so it does not require connection to a fixed broadband. You just connect the power, then 10 square icons pop up on the touch screen. The user has access to the most basic functions, such as email, news, internet browser, word processing and photos--all in all, the perfect solution for seniors with little or no IT experience. An external mouse can be used, but is not required.

Both the Municipality of Aarhus and Daneage have tested the Grandmother-PC and expressed enthusiasm for it.

Last month, duka PC has also won the Entrepreneur Award in the category of IT & Technology.
