Upcoming demonstrations seen as practical exercises for Danish police
European police and scientists will travel to Aarhus to observe how the Danish police handle a potentially rowdy demonstration from an extreme right-wing group.

On Saturday, March 31st, the Danish Defence League, a spin off of the original English Defence League, will be demonstrating in Aarhus, giving the Danish police force a test in peace-keeping tactics. The demonstration is a case of extreme right meeting extreme left, since previous demos by the English Defence League have often been resulted in counter-protestors from the other side of the political spectrum.
The Western world has been faced with this challenge again and again: What tactics prevent violence while also ensuring freedom of political expression? That is why European and Danish police see this demonstration as a practical exercise that could help find a balance.
In any case, the Danish police assure people that they have long been preparing for this demonstration, so Aarhusians need not fear any violent escalations. They encourage us to continue on as usual in downtown Aarhus.
