Study Abroad in Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry

If you are considering going on exchange during your studies in Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry, there are several options available to you. Regardless of what you choose, all courses must be approved by your degree programme coordinator.
If you have questions regarding the academic aspects of your exchange, you can speak with your student counsellor or your degree programme coordinator. For questions about the application process and related matters, please contact your international coordinator

Are you going abroad during your Bachelor's degree?

You have the opportunity to go on exchange during the 5th semester of the Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry, but in general, we recommend that you wait until the Master's level.
If you choose to go abroad in the 5th semester, you must ensure that you find credit-worthy courses to replace the mandatory AU courses Analytical Chemistry and Statistical Data Analysis with Python, which are part of the Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry programme at Aarhus University.

Are you going abroad during your Master's degree?

During the Master's degree, you can go on exchange in the 1st (7th) or 2nd (8th) semester.

Choosing Courses During Your Study Abroad Stay

Once you have found some interesting courses at the host university, you should consider the following:

  • Does the course content overlap with courses you have already taken as part of your Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry programme? If the overlap is too significant, your application to take the course abroad will be rejected.
  • Do you meet the academic prerequisites for taking the course?
  • Is the course at an appropriate academic level?
  • Is the course content research-based – i.e., is the lecturer an active researcher within the subject area or a closely related field? If the teaching is not research-based, your application to take the course will be rejected.
  • As a Master’s student, you may be allowed to take a Bachelor’s level course if it is an advanced course at the host university and a similar course is not offered at AU.

We will also check the above when processing your pre-approval application, but by reviewing it yourself in advance, you will save both yourself (and us) time and avoid rejection.
