The goal of the course is to bring to the student the structural and biochemical background necessary to be able to understand and solve biological problems.

The course is based on the Biology 3/2A and deals with the following subjects: Structure, modification, secretion, and function of selected proteins; enzymatic mechanisms; structural proteins; the metabolism of glycogen, fatty acids, amino acid and nitrogen metabolism; hormones - structure and functional mechanisms; protolytically regulated physiological systems, e.g. blood coagulation and fibrinolysis.

Laboratory course leads to a basic knowledge of purification and structural and functional characterization of protein. The course contributes to the knowledge of gene technology among other forms of biotechnology.
