Contents The purpose of the course is to give an introduction to fundamental concepts, methods and problems in modern astrophysics.
1. Stellar internal structure and evolution.
Basic equations for stellar models in equilibrium, the evolution of main-sequence stars and giant stars, late stages of evolution, white dwarfs, neutron stars, black holes and pulsars. Star formation. The synthesis of heavy elements.
2. Galaxies and cosmology.
Galaxies and galaxy clusters. Quasars. The Big Bang model. The expansion of the Universe, the 3K background radiation, the first three minutes, the synthesis of light elements. Galaxy formation.
