Quantum Optics

Quantum Optics

Introduction:
This course gives an introduction to basic methods and techniques used to describe the interaction between light and (small) quantum mechanical systems: theory of quantization and detection of light, interaction between light and two-level atoms, density matrices, stochastic wavefunctions, quantum state tomography on fields and particles.
In addition, a number of current research topics will be presented : new tests and illustrations of the interpretation of quantum mechanics, quantum cryptography and quantum computing, the laser and the atom laser, ``quantum optical states" of Bose Einstein condensates.

Literature:
The course will be based on recent articles and lecture notes.
