Sustainability at AU: Your guide to keeping it green on campus

Find inspiration on how you can contribute to a more climate friendly university.

Travel green

  • If you’re going on a work-related trip in Denmark or abroad, follow AU’s travel policy – here you will find guidelines on choosing your means of transport and booking air and train travel.
  • Try to carpool. By sharing lifts to conferences and courses you can help the climate. You can also sign up to AU’s carpooling club in the Ta’Med app, which makes it easy to give and find lifts to and from the university.
  • The more than 10,000 bicycle parking spaces at AU makes it easy to find a spot for your bicycle. The university's campuses have several pumping stations so you can pump your tyres. See a map of AU’s bicycle parking spaces and pumping stations

Food and drink

  • Use ordinary tableware in canteens and kitchens instead of single-use tableware whenever possible.
  • Sort single-use tableware and leftovers in the right fractions of waste. Read more about waste sorting at AU.
  • Reuse your plastic bags or use reusable containers when bringing food from home.
  • Use your own thermos cup when getting coffee from the machines and coffeemakers in the Campus canteens. Often this is even cheaper than when you buy a cardboard mug for your coffee.
  • Take advantage of the opportunity to take cheap food home – many canteens sell off their food at the end of the day.
  • Keep an eye out for discounted food products – several canteens will reduce the price of products that are close to their expiry date.
  • Check out the canteens’ growing selection of vegetarian meals.

Use energy wisely

Everyone can contribute to reducing AU's climate footprint by being mindful of their energy consumption when using the university’s campuses or other premises - including the use of IT equipment, file management, printers, lights, water and heating.
