The new food service provider at AU is a familiar face

Compass Group has won the contract to operate the canteens in the Nobel Park, at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, the Social Sciences Canteen at Aarhus BSS and the Conference Centre. Compass Group operates the canteen at the Royal Danish Library, and has pledged to serve healthy, climate-friendly food for prices that suit student budgets.

Compass Group will open its doors to diners on 2 September in a number of locations, including the Nobel Park canteen, which will be full of life and hungry students once again. The menu will be a lot like what’s served at the Royal Danish Library. Photo: jens Hartmann Schmidt

What you can expect at the different canteens

  • At the Nobel Park and the social sciences canteen at Aarhus BSS, the food will be very similar to the selection at the Royal Danish Library, with a large salad buffet, hot dishes, street food and a wide selection of sandwiches, cakes and pastries. There will also be a café offering tea and barista coffee.
  • At the canteen at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, Compass Group will provide a varied selection, including a buffet with hot dishes, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, a salad bar, mixed salads, sandwiches, cakes and pastries.
  • Get an overview of all of AU’s canteens. Once Compass Group opens for business at the beginning of the semester, there will be links to a website with more information about the menu, service and opening hours in the individual canteens.

Have you ever eaten at the canteen at the Royal Danish Library in Aarhus? Then you’ll have a good idea of what will be on the menu at the canteen and café in the Nobel Park, and the dentistry and social sciences canteens starting in September: Compass Group, which operates the Royal Danish Library canteen, has won the contract to operate all three canteens.

Compass Group will also be taking over the Conference Centre/Stakladen, which provides catering for meetings, conferences and events, in addition to operating the new canteens that will open in the University City.

Sustainability, vegetarian options and social dining on the menu

Healthy, sustainable food is the main ingredient in Compass Group’s canteen concept. They base their menu on what’s in season and are committed to reducing meat consumption.

AU awarded to the contract to Compass Group because they offer a wide variety of tried-and-true concepts for healthy, climate-friendly canteen food and catering at competitive prices. Compass Group will host events, theme days and social dining at the canteens, and a ‘people’s kitchen’ concept will be offered in the University City with weekly communal meals, which is in line with AU’s visions for the study environment in the University City.  Compass Group also has experience from other universities in Denmark, including the Technical University of Denmark, the University of Copenhagen and the University of Southern Denmark.

Grab’n’go in the last week of August

The Compass Group-operated canteens will open on 2 September. Special offers will be available to celebrate the opening, and the canteens will all be open for breakfast and lunch, as well as morning and afternoon snacks and treats. In the last week of August, when orientation week starts for some degree programmes the last week of August, students and staff will be able to buy a limited range of grab’n’go items and beverages at the three locations.

Compass Group is taking over because the previous operator Jespers Torvekøkken withdrew from their contract this spring.
