First-year exam

First-year exam for Bachelor's degree students

In order for you to continue your studies, you must pass the first-year exam within your first year of study.

The first-year exam requires that you have passed the number of ECTS credits specified by your degree programme during your first year. For bachelor’s degree students, this is 50 ECTS credits.

You are entitled to at least two exam attempts in each of the first-year exam courses from the 1st and 2nd semesters within this period.

In other words, you must pass 50 ECTS from the 1st and 2nd semesters within the first year of study, at the latest by the re-examination.

The re-examination takes place in August for students who started in the summer semester.

For students who started in the winter semester, the re-examination for 2nd semester courses takes place in June and August.

This means that students who start in the winter semester have three semesters to pass their first-year exam.

Check your academic regulations to see how many ECTS credits your first-year exam is worth and which exams are included in your first academic year.

If you do not pass the first-year exam

If you do not pass the first-year exam before the end of the first academic year, you will not be able to continue your studies, and you will thereby lose your right to a new examination attempt.

This means that even if you have unused examination attempts, you will lose the right to use them if the deadline for the first-year exam has passed.

If there is a risk that you will not be able to fulfil the requirements to pass your first-year exam due to, for example, long-term illness or other exceptional circumstances, it is possible to apply for an extension.

You can read more about extensions under 'Exemptions' in the left menu.

Please apply for extension via mitstudie.au.dk, where you can find application forms.
