Where do you want to go?
There are other ways to study abroad than enrolling on a semester-long exchange programme. For example, you could attend an international summer school or take an internship programme. Read more about these different options below – but remember to check whether they fit into your study plan and comply with your academic regulations. Contact your student counsellor to discuss the options in more detail.
Aarhus University is a member of the UArctic network, which consists of universities and other institutions working with Arctic-related issues. Through UArctic, the north2north program offers scholarships and tuition fee waivers (meaning you do not have to pay for your courses) for exchange stays, field courses, and more within Arctic-related subjects. Read more about UArctic and the scholarship here.
It is possible to apply for three different things:
The north2north scholarship for travel to other north2north partners outside Denmark. You can apply for funding for semester exchange, field courses, project work, summer courses, etc.
Tuition fee waiver (the same as a semester exchange spot) at other north2north partners.
A 6-month internship at the UArctic Secretariat in Finland – read more here.
All full-time bachelor’s and master’s students at AU can apply for both the scholarship and tuition fee waivers. You can read more about the conditions for travel through north2north on UArctic’s website.
It is also possible for PhD students and other staff at Aarhus University to apply for the scholarship for travel and conferences, etc., at other north2north partners. You can read more here.
You can travel to a number of universities in e.g. Canada, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Scotland, France, the United States, and Australia. You can see a list of north2north partner universities.
If you want to go on exchange to a north2north partner in the Nordic countries or in France, you do not have to pay tuition fees and therefore you should not apply for a tuition fee waiver.
Tuition fee waivers (+ the north2north scholarship) can be applied for at several universities in the USA, Canada, the UK, and Australia.
See a list of tuition fee waivers/exchange spots that you can apply for in 2026/27 here.
Scholarships for study stays range between 1500–2500 EUR, depending on the length of the stay and whether it takes place within or outside Europe.
Scholarships for short courses, projects, and conferences range between 1000–1500 EUR, depending on the destination.
If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, tuition waiver/exchange spot, or both, you can send an email to Signe Helbo (signe.helbo@au.dk), and I will inform you about the application process.
15 February for scholarships and/or tuition fee waivers for travel in the following academic year
(the scholarship may, in some cases, be granted for travel in the same semester as the application deadline).
You can expect to receive a response to your application at the end of March.

Humboldt Internship Program - The new short-term program for experiential learning at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
This program is designed for advanced Bachelor as well as Master and doctoral students from. It will allow participants to collaborate with teams in our research laboratories and institutes for three months. The short-term program offers students the opportunity to experiential learning. They are part of academic work teams, deal with challenging tasks, and explore Berlin. An innovative working environment and processes of knowledge transfer characterize the work projects.
On an ongoing basis, we arrange internships that best fit the students' schedule. The feasibility depends on the time availability of the respective project supervisor. Dates are chosen individually by the applicant (period must be 12 weeks). The availability of the chosen project in the specified time is checked by the program coordinator.
Additional activities:
During the duration of the program, participants are offered courses and excursions on German culture and history. The participants will be able to connect to their peers through various activities, explore Berlin, and become part of the 'Humboldt community' while conducting their research projects.
Check the list of available projects here. All projects take place in Berlin, Germany. The exact location depends on the location of the department/institution implementing the respective project. Project descriptions available for download are subject to change.
Please contact the program coordinator in case you are interested in an internship position which has already been allocated.
We are continously working on the expansion of the internship opportunities towards selected university departments, research facilities, cultural institutions, and companies.
