Stay abroad at Mathemathics

If you are considering going on exchange during your studies in data science, mathematics, mathematics-economics, or statistics, there are several opportunities available to you. Regardless of your choice, the courses you take must be approved by your degree programme coordinator.

If you have questions regarding the academic aspects of your exchange, you can speak to your student advisor or your degree programme coordinator. If you have questions about the application process, etc., please contact your international coordinator.

When can you go on an exchange stay abroad?

Data Science
You have the opportunity to go on exchange during the 5th semester of the bachelor's degree in Data Science.

During the Master's degree in Data Science, you can go abroad in the 1st (7th), 2nd (8th), or 3rd (9th) semester.

Mathematics and Statistics
You can go on exchange during the 5th or 6th semester of the bachelor's degree in Mathematics.

During the Master's programmes in Mathematics and Statistics, you can go abroad in the 1st (7th), 2nd (8th), or 3rd (9th) semester.

Mathematics-Economics
You can go on exchange during the 5th semester of the bachelor's degree in Mathematics-Economics, but we generally recommend going abroad during the Master's degree. If you choose to go on exchange in the 5th semester, please note that you must find credit-awarding courses that can substitute the compulsory courses in the 5th semester of the Bachelor's degree in Mathematics-Economics.

During the Master's degree, you can go abroad in the 1st (7th), 2nd (8th), or 3rd (9th) semester.

Selection of Courses During Your Study Abroad

When you have found some interesting courses you would like to take at the host university, you should check the following:

  • Whether the course content overlaps with any courses you have already taken in your degree programme. If the overlap is too significant, your application to take the course abroad will be rejected.
  • Whether you meet the academic prerequisites for the course.
  • Whether the course matches the academic level you are currently studying at.
  • Whether the course content is research-based – in other words, is the lecturer an active researcher within the subject area or a closely related field? If the teaching is not research-based, the course will not be approved.

As a Master's student, you may be allowed to take a Bachelor's-level course if it is an advanced course at Bachelor's level at the host university, or if a similar course is not offered at Aarhus University.

We will also check all of the above, but you’ll be doing yourself (and us) a favour by checking it beforehand. Otherwise, your preliminary approval may be rejected.
