This course is intended to make the participant conversant with the theory of spectroscopic transitions in the gas phase. The following topics are treated: molecular energy states and their description; interaction between matter and radiation; intensity and selection rules for molecular transitions; introduction to experimental equipment; interferometry, lasers and laser spectroscopy.
