PhCh 415 Reaction Dynamics

PhCh 415 Reaction Dynamics

Contents

This course is addressed to the student who is interested in the theoretical description of chemical processes based upon elementary pictures of the interactions between electrons and nuclei in molecules. Some familiarity with quantum-mechanical concepts and approximations, such as the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, is presupposed. The course provides the necessary introduction to quantum-mechanical scattering theory, statistical-mechanical partition functions and the representation of potential surfaces. Among the topics covered are unimolecular rearrangements, bimolecular collisions, photochemical processes and electron transfer.
