The Agency for SU conducts a study activity control once per semester respectively in march and september. If you receive a letter in your e-box informing you that your SU will stop due to lack of study activity, you can read about your options here. Lack of study activity means that you have not passed enough ECTS points compared to the number of SU portions that you have received.
You can see your study progression at minSU - ”Se din SU – Studiefremdrift”.
If your SU is stopped due to lack of study activity and it is not due to illness or special circumstances that you have been granted extra SU portions for, you can re-apply for SU when you have passed the number of ECTS-points mentioned in the letter that you have received.
An example: If you pass the ECTS points mentioned in the letter, in June, you can re-apply for SU in June. Your application will be approved when we can see that the ECTS-points have been registered on STADS. Notice that you have to re-apply for SU on “minSU” by the end of the month, where you want to receive SU – “minSU/RET DIN SU/Genoptag SU”. If you want to apply for June, you must apply no later than 30 June.

New application for foreign citizens applying for equal status with Danish citizens
As of 17 June 2020 you must use a new digital solution to apply for equal status with Danish citizens. You can access the application for equal status by clicking on the receipt page you get when you have applied for SU in minSU. If you already applied for SU, you can access the application for equal status in minSU, under Søg SU > Application for equal status (foreign citizens)
Please note: Your application cannot be processed until you have correctly registered your personal identification (Danish CPR. no.) number in the study administration system. You can register here
All applications are made on minSU. You can access minSU via www.su.dk.
In connection with certain applications, you need to send a receipt page (kvitteringsside), along with relevant documentation.
Note that non-Danish citizens need to also apply for equal status. You must complete the application for equal status no later than three weeks after you have made your application for SU in minSU.
You can read more about how to apply for equal status with Danish citizens here and on Uddannelses- og Forskningsstyrelsens homepage her: https://www.su.dk/english/su-as-a-foreign-citizen/how-to-apply-for-the-first-time/
In order to receive a SU-loan, you need to approve your loan plan on minSU -> “ret din SU-> godkend låneplan”(“correct your SU” – “approve loan plan”). You will receive the payment around 7-10 days after you have approved your loan plan.
Note that you cannot receive a SU-loan, if you have withdrawn from your studies, have graduated, are on a leave of absence or if you have been declared as “studieinaktiv” (you have not passed enough ECTS points compared to the number of SU portions that you have received.). You can receive the SU-loan that you have been granted when you are declared “studieaktiv” (actively studying) again or when you resume your studies.
You can read more about SU-loan here: https://www.su.dk/english/state-educational-grant-and-loan-scheme-su/
You can apply for SU a month before you would like to start receiving it. If you for example start your education and are eligible for SU from September, you can apply for SU from the 1st of August. The deadline for applying for SU is the last day of the month (however, the deadline for applying for SU for December is the 5th of December).
Note that non-Danish citizens need to also apply for equal status.
You can read more about how to apply for equal status with Danish citizens here: https://www.su.dk/english/su-as-a-foreign-citizen/how-to-apply-for-the-first-time/
Students who accept support in a year in which they hold a job and their private earnings exceed a set amount have to repay some of the grants and loans received that year plus interests. The set amount is called "fribeløb". Your yearly "fribeløb" is calculated from January to December. It is the maximum amount of money you are allowed to earn when also receiving SU. If you earn more, you have to repay all or some of your SU and any SU-loan.
You can read more about the maximal earnings here: https://www.su.dk/english/state-educational-grant-and-loan-scheme-su/rules-regarding-employment-and-private-earnings/
If you have previously lost your equal status, but meet the requirements again, you can apply for SU again on minSU -> ret din SU -> genoptag SU. Afterwards you need to apply for equal status again on minSU -> søg SU -> application for equal status (foreign citizens). Please read more here (and reach out to Uddannelses- og Forskningsstyrelsen, if you have any enquiries regardring your equal status): https://www.su.dk/english/su-as-a-foreign-citizen/. When you are declared “studieinaktiv” you have not passed enough ECTS points compared to the number of SU portions that you have received) and your SU is stopped, you will receive a letter, in which it is described how you get your SU back. You can receive SU again if you pass more ECTS or if you receive extra SU portions (“tillæg af klip”). Remember that you need to apply for getting SU back at minSU --> Ret din SU --> Genoptag SU.
You must inform Uddannelses- og Forskningsstyrelsen if you get a new job/stop working/become ill, are on holidays or your job situation has changed in a way that can impact your equal status.
