Withdrawal

Would you like to be withdrawn from your programme?

If you wish to resign from your programme without completing it, it is important that you first of all read the following instructions.

Important conditions for withdrawing

If you have signed up for courses or exams:

When you withdraw from your programme, you will automatically be deregistered from any courses or exams you have signed up for.

If you withdraw before you have received a grade for an exam you have already taken, you will still receive this grade even though you are no longer enrolled at AU. This means that you do not need to wait for your grade before you withdraw from your programme.

If you wish to enroll again at the same level of education:

If you wish to apply/enrol again, please note that special rules apply. Admission to the same degree programme can take place five months after you withdrew from the programme, as stated in Section 36(4) of Adgangsbekendtgørelsen. Students who have been deregistered for a semester or for whom enrolment has been terminated cannot participate in examinations or tests on the degree programme in the same semester.

If you withdraw from a Bachelor's degree before you have completed the first year of study or before you have passed the programme elements that are equivalent to the first year of the programme, you cannot be re-admitted to the programme. Instead, you must re-apply to be admitted through KOT.

If you have passed the first year of study, your chance of becoming re-registered to the programme still depends on several factors: there must be a vacant space on the programme and you may not have used all your examination attempts.

If you are re-admitted to the programme, you will be enrolled on the latest curriculum, which means that you might not get full credit of all the courses you completed on the programme before you withdrew.

Before you withdraw from your programme, we suggest you have a chat with your local student counsellors about the consequences of deregistering – particularly if you are considering re-enrolling at a later point.

Applying for leave

If you are applying for leave from your programme (instead of withdrawing from your programme), you can find information and guidance here

SU

The SU office will automatically receive notification of your withdrawal.

You will be withdrawn from all your full-time programmes

When you withdraw from your programme at AU, you will also be deregistered from any other subjects you are following at other faculties at the university.

When you complete you Bachelor's or Master's degree programme

If you have completed your Bachelor's degree programme and have applied for admission to a Master´s programme at Aarhus University, your enrolment as a Bachelor’s student will end automatically. You do not need to withdraw from your Bachelor’s programme. Likewise, if you have completed your Master´s degree programme, your enrolment will end automatically.

How can I withdraw from my programme?

Your withdrawal will be effective from date you send your withdrawal request through Student Self-service. This means that you must apply no later than the day you wish to be deregistered.

If you are you enrolled at the Faculty of Arts (including DPU), the Faculty of Health, Aarhus BSS, the Faculty of Technical Sciences (including AU Herning) or the Faculty of Natural Sciences, please withdraw through the university's Student Self-Service STADS.

Sign in to mitstudie.au.dk/en, where you will find a link to STADS. To sign in, you will need your student number and the same password you use on mitstudie.au.dk. Once you are signed in on Student Self Service, select 'Request withdrawal' under the ‘Enrolments’ tab.

When your withdrawal has been approved, you will receive a confirmation letter by post or in your e-Boks.
