When you register for a course, you are automatically registered for the exam associated with the course.
Remember to check that you are registered for the exam on the Student Self Service portal (STADS) via My studies.
Your exam registration will have one of the following statuses:
Not checked: AU Studies Administration has not processed your registration for exams yet
Denied: The invoice for the tuition fee has not been paid or the payment has not been registered correctly in the system. Contact AU Studies Administration if the invoice has been paid.
Approved: The invoice is paid and you can participate in the exam.
You can find an overview of the courses/exams you need to register for in the academic regulations.
Contact Studies Administration at [email protected] if you have any questions about your exam registration or if you want to register for additional exams.
Remember to check your exam registration
Remember to check your exam registration before the exam!
Your exam registration will only be registered once the invoice has been paid and only then will you be able to participate in the exam.
If you do not pass or if you fail your first examination attempt, you will have to register for the reexamination. You can register via the the STADS student self-service system.
If you are a single-course student, you must register for the reexamination by writing to [email protected]
If you want to register for the reexamination during the reexamination period (typically in February or August, respectively), you must have been registered/used an examination attempt at the preceding ordinary exam.
If you participated in an exam in March/April or October/November, then the reexamination period may be earlier.
You can only register for the reexamination once your exam result has been registered in the the STADS student self-service system - even if you were absent. If you register prior to this, the registration will be rejected.
If you were ill, if you failed or if you were absent from an ordinary exam, you can register for the reexamination immediately after the ordinary exam.
Example: You fail an ordinary exam held in June. You can then register for the reexamination, which will be held during the same semester, i.e. in August.
If you deregistered from the regular exam, you cannot take the reexamination during the same semester. You will not be able to take the reexamination until the next ordinary exam. Please note that most exams are only offered once a year, so postponing an exam can cause delays to your degree programme.
Deadlines for registering for reexamination during the same semester:
| SEMESTER | REEXAMINATION DATE | REGISTRATION DEADLINE |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2026 | August 2026 | 5 July 2026 |
| Autumn 2026 | February 2027 | 7 February 2027 |
| Spring 2027 | August 2027 | 7 July 2027 |
Deadlines for registering for reexamination during the same semester:
NOTE: You can only register for reexamination during this period if you have used (registered) an examination attempt during the same semester.
You can only register for the reexamination once your exam result has been registered in the STADS student self-service system - even if you were absent. If you register prior to this, the registration will be rejected.
If you do not pass the first reexamination, you have the option to register for the exam in a later semester.
This also applies if you are unable to attend the reexamination scheduled immediately after the ordinary exam. Note that postponing the reexamination may cause delays to your degree programme.
Example: You fail an ordinary exam held in June. You fail to make use of the second exam attempt at the reexamination in August or fail your second exam attempt at the reexamination in August. You can then register to take the reexamination the next time an ordinary exam in the subject is held. Please note that most courses/exams are only offered once a year.
