Questions of curriculum: Teaching archaeology and heritage studies in precarious times

Time: 13:15-15:00
Where: 4206-129
When: October 9

Abstract:

Drawing on two recent publications—the volume Rethinking Heritage in Precarious Times(Routledge, 2023) and the white paper on Cultural and

Natural Heritage for Climate Action (ICOMOS, 2023) - I open out to a series of questions: What do we mean by Heritage Studies, and how is it different to Public Archaeology? What do we mean by the ‘critical Humanities’? What is our role as researchers and educators, and what sorts of accountabilities do we have? How do we help our students to grapple with the nature of the contemporary historical moment, characterised by multiple, overlapping crises? And how does all of this translate into questions of curriculum?
