You have the opportunity to go on exchange during the 6th semester of the Biotechnology programme.
Please note that the 6th semester includes three mandatory courses totaling 15 ECTS credits. This means you are generally expected to find equivalent courses at the host university.
Your course selection must be academically approved by the degree programme coordinator for Biotechnology, based on an individual assessment. Therefore, we encourage you to contact the programme coordinator for guidance on course selection abroad.
You can find contact information on the Study Portal under Contact and Study Service → Degree Programme Coordinators and Boards of Studies → Bachelor of Engineering programmes in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, and Food Technology.
Please be aware that, alongside your study abroad stay, you will also need to prepare for your Bachelor's project. This includes forming a group, selecting a project/company, choosing a supervisor, and writing a project description.
If you plan to continue in the Master's degree programme in Chemical and Biotechnological Engineering, make sure you meet the academic requirements for admission.

In the Bachelor's degree programmes in Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering, most of the courses are mandatory – with only 10 ECTS elective credits in the 5th semester and 15 ECTS elective credits in the 6th semester, which also includes the Bachelor's project. Therefore, we do not recommend studying abroad during the Bachelor's programme.
However, you have the opportunity to go on exchange during the 3rd semester of the Master’s degree programme in Chemical and Biotechnological Engineering, where the entire semester consists of 30 ECTS elective courses.
It is important that you have passed all mandatory courses before going abroad. We also recommend that you have a plan for your thesis before your exchange stay and that you keep in mind that thesis planning should take place during your third semester.
Once you have found some interesting courses at the host university, you should consider the following:
As a Master’s student, you may take up to 10 ECTS credits of Bachelor’s level courses, provided that they are advanced undergraduate courses at the host university and that a similar course is not offered at Aarhus University.
Below you can find examples of where students from your degree programme have been on exchange in recent years:
Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology
Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering
Bachelor of Engineering in Food Technology
Master’s in Chemical and Biotechnological Engineering
