The lecturers announce new projects regularly. If you find an interesting project, you should contact the lecturer and hear if the particular project can function as a Bachelor’s project.

Practical information

Driving in departmental cars

If you need to drive in a departmental car with relation to your bachelor project period, you need to send an e-mail to Louise Kruse Have and she will then assist you in obtaining a written authorization. It will take a few days, so please send a mail well in advance.

Laboratory work

It is mandatory to get a guided safety tour by a technician before initiating any work in a laboratory.  In addition, you are expected to keep informed about and adhere to all safety rules for laboratory work, incl. clothing and rules regarding food and beverages in the laboratories where you work and are located.

Most often, you will be assigned a contact lab technician to whom you can ask relevant questions.

Insurance

It is highly recommended that all project students, take out an accident insurance on which they state that they are students, since student are not included in the industrial injury insurance. Please be aware of the fact that some insurance companies make certain reservations when covering for accidents which have occurred in a laboratory.

Workload

Information about average weekly workload can be found in the course description (“Bachelor’s Project – Biology”) for 10, 15 and 20 ECTS in the AU course catalogue.

Structure and length of the thesis

The project report may be written in Danish or English as agreed with your supervisor, but must include an abstract in both Danish and English. It is recommended that the thesis follow the IMRAD structure, like a scientific paper. The maximum length of the report is 25 pages (2400 characters incl. spaces) for a 20 ECTS project, 20 pages for 15 ECTS and 15 pages for 10 ECTS, incl. references and excl. figures and tables.

Front page

The bachelor report must include a front page with your name and student ID, the name(s) of supervisor(s) and submission date. In addition, there must be a project title in English, also if the report has a Danish title and is written in Danish.

Submission of the project report

Group project

The number of pages allowed can be enhanced by 12 pages per student if the Bachelor’s project is a group project. The evaluation must be supplemented with an oral examination of each individual student in the group.

The oral examination will be based on the topic of the project report and the duration is 30 minutes per student (incl. evaluation).

Information to main supervisor

Be aware that you as main supervisor is responsible for the following:

  • Finding a suitable external examiners

    • You can find information about use of external examiners in the External Examiner Portal ST (payment, standards, limits on number of hours, hotel accommodation etc.)
    • After examination, the external examiner must return the examiner package to censor.st@au.dk . The examiner package can be found in Digital Exam under the tab ”Show exam information”

    Supervisor(s) and external censor must evaluate the master’s thesis, incl. oral examination (one single mark) in Digital Exam:

    • All examiners, including external examiner automatically receives an e-mail with a link to Digital Exam when the students has handed-in the thesis report

      • If one or more examiners did not receive this e-mail, it is always possible to login via the webpage: https://eksamen.au.dk. Click ”Login as assessor” and choose either examiner or co-examiner and whether you would like to log-in using WAYF or Nem ID

    Individual oral examination in group projects :

    • To agree on a date for the oral examination with the external examiner and student

      • Booking a room/location for the oral examination
      • The oral examination must be held at Aarhus University
