The Credit System

The smallest unit of study is called a subject module. The modules are evaluated by one or more examinations and an exmination pass gives a certain number of credit points. A one-year full-time study programme gives 12 credit points or 60 ECTS credits.

For all three types of degree programmes, students are required to complete a two-year Part One comprisingone or two basic subjects plus a subsidiary subject.

Students should choose a fixed line of study from which various courses can be selected. At present, the following lines of study are available:

Biology, Earth Sciences, Mathematics/Computer Science, Mathematics/Physics, Mathematics/Chemistry, Mathematical Economics, Computer Science/Physics, Physics/Chemistry, Chemistry/Molecular Biology.

The completion of Part One will give 24 credit points.

A four-year study programme comprising Part One and Part Two is required of all students wishing to pursue a Master's degree or a Ph.D. Part Two courses are selected in co-operation with a student counsellor in such a way that the student can be assured of an introduction to the various topics and methods on which to base a Master's or Ph.D. programme. Part Two courses will give a total of 24 credit points.
