Examinations

End of semester examinations take place in January and in May/June. In August, there is an opportunity to resit examinations failed during the current year.

Students must obtain a pass grade for each separate course or combined course.

Examinations may take any of the following forms:

1. Written examination

2. Additional examination (a student on the borderline of grades 5 and 6 may be called for an oral assessment)

3. Oral examination

4. Dissertation/s

5. Take-home report (1-3 weeks may be allowed for a written report on a given topic)

6. Assessment of a compulsory essay or report, possibly with oral discussion to follow

7. At least 80% attendance and active participation in a course, possibly followed by oral discussion

8. Any combination of #1-7

Most of the courses require the approval of an external or internal examiner and are graded on a scale of 13.

Unless otherwise stated, examination aids such as textbooks, notes, tables, dictionaries, and pocket calculators are allowed.

Permission for extended examination time for written examinations may be granted to students with special difficulties, e.g., language problems or dyslexia, provided that an application in writing is sent to the Board of Studies at least four weeks before the start of examinations.
