Aim

To enable the students to find, understand and use web-based information resources in Molecular Biology.

 

Contents

The course starts with an introduction to web-based information systems i general, database structure and use, and bioinformation systems accessible via the Internet. Information retrieval in litterature and patent databases as well as reference management in litterature are introduced. The course continues with an introduction to the application of web-based methods for sequence database search, sequence alignment, phylogeny, structure prediction, sequence patterns, genome mapping, gene finding, prediction of function, chip-technology, polymorfism and proteomics.
