Application and approval

Before starting a project-based internship, parts of the process of application, approval and registration will often take place concurrently. The process can be divided into the four following parts:

1. Find a project-based internship

2. Internal Internship Supervisor

Once you have completed the internship agreement in collaboration with the internship site, the next step is to find an internal internship supervisor, by contacting a relevant academic staff member at the Department of Economics. If you study Public Policy, you may choose an academic supervisor from the Department of Political Science. Please include/attach the completed internship agreement, when you contact the internal internship supervisor.

The internal internship supervisor at Department of Economics will approve the internship based on:

1. The academic content of the internship and

2. The number of hours stated in relation to the desired scope (5, 10 or 20 ECTS credits)

Your internal internship supervisor at Department of Economics confirms by email whether your internship can be approved and whether he or she has the opportunity to supervise you.

Administrative registration

  • Register for project-based internship in the registration period in STADS. Log in to STADS via mystudies.au.dk. In STADS, you choose 'Courses' > 'Register'.

4. Send your internship agreement and confirmation email to your studies administration office

Deadline for submission of the internship agreement and confirmation email:

  • Internship in the spring semester: 15 January
  • Internship in the autumn semester: 15 August

How to submit your internship agreement and conformation email to your studies administration office:

  • Log in to mystudies.au.dk
  • Click on 'Submit an application to your board of studies '.
  • Choose 'Apply for a pre-approval for a course at another educational institution'. There may be fields in the application form which are not accurate in relation to a project-based internship. When asked about the university, you must write the name of the workplace instead. When asked about which courses and groups you would like, you can simply write 'internship'.
  • Attach the internship agreement
  • Attach the confirmation email with the approval of the internship from your internal supervisor

Once you have registered for the project-based internship during the registration period, your registration will be considered 'in process' in STADS. When you submit your application (including the internship agreement and confirmation email ) to the student administration, your registration will be changed to 'Registered and Approved'. When your registration for the project-based internship has a status of 'Registered and Approved' in STADS, your project-based internship has been approved.
