CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:

The Barcelona Past Networks Summer School offers hands-on training in network research for the study of 
the human past. Participants explore network theory, methods, and critical applications through practical 
exercises and expert-led lectures.

No prior coding or mathematical experience is required, but a willingness to work with computational approaches is essential. The summer school is ideal for archaeologists, historians, classicists, and anyone whose 
home institution cannot provide specialized training in network research.

Format:
The 4-day summer school takes place in Barcelona 16-19 June 2026. It combines lectures and discussions, 
hands-on practical sessions, and social events. 

Application details:
You apply using the application form online. The form includes a 400-word motivational statement that 
should clearly describe why you want to attend the BPNSS, and how you expect to benefit from the experience. No CV or other documentation is required. The submitted application forms will be reviewed by the organizing committee, who will offer places and create a waiting list.

Price: 
This is a free event and there is no registration fee. Registration includes coffee, tea, organised social events, one dinner, and all academic content and materials. The school includes four lunches for which a 75 EUR lunch fee needs to be paid at the registration phase. The lunch fee can only be paid once you have been offered a place in the summer school. Participants are required to make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, 2 dinners and personal expenses.
