The background for an understanding of reaction mechanisms (Hammett-Taft relations, solvent and isotope effects, Brøndsted and Lewis acids/bases, HSAP-principle, Woodward-Hoffmann rules, stereochemistry) and the application on important organic reactions will be discussed.
