The objectives of the course are to introduce the student to the fundamentals of animal toxicology, including uptake, metabolism and excretion of xenobiotics and short and long term effects followin acute and chronic exposures. Subsequently, basic ecotoxicological aspects are discussed (effects on aquatic and terrestrial populations and communities, prediction, chemical legislation etc.) The theoretical part of the course consists of lectures (32 hours) and seminars (30 hours). In the laboratory practicals (48 hours) the toxicological and ecotoxicological consequences of metals, pesticides and an endocrine disruptor are assessed by modern techniques and biomarkers.

Evaluation

The course is evaluated through an oral exam, the laboratory reports and an essay (10 pages) on a relevant ecotoxicological topic.
