General Botany

General Botany

Contents

The goal of the course is to give the students a knowledge of the phylogeny and taxonomy of
higher plants and a theoretical knowledge and practice in the morphology of plants.

Headlines:

The taxonomy of higher plants is introduced with a special attention to plant families well
represented in NW Europe and taught through lectures and with demonstration of specimens
in the botanical garden and the greenhouses. Descriptive and comparative morphology of
plants is introduced through field-trips and laboratory practice and with a special attention to
growth forms of higher plants and to adaptation of plants to various biotopes. An individual
project allows more profound study of a systematic and/or morphological subject; and is to be
documented by a written report.
