The goal of the course is to provide first-year students in biology with a fundamental understanding of organic chemistry. The course forms the basis of future courses in biochemistry and other life sciences, and concists of lectures, problem solving, and a laboratory course divided in equal parts between General and Organic Chemistry.
The topics of the course include: Aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, synthesis and reactions of different classes of organic compounds, reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry and spectroscopy.
