Basic course, autumn term, 2 points, 10 ECTS.

Aim

The course provides basic knowledge of the anatomy, systematics, life history and ecology of important animal groups. Emphasis is placed on the levels of
organization within the animal kingdom from an evolutionary as well as a functional point of view.

Contents

The zoological system and its evolutionary background.
Basic architecture and early embryology of major animal phyla.
Histology of animal tissues and anatomy of important animal groups are treated in laboratory exercises (microscopy, dissection).
The fauna of Denmark and Danish animal communities.
While the main part of the course consists of functional morphology and anatomy presented during laboratory exercises, a number of topics are briefly
introduced - including animal ecology, behaviour and physiology.
A five day field course is held during the summer following the main course.
