A comprehensive lecture course on the biological question of "why we grow old and what is the limit to lifespan?" Topics to be covered include the evolution of ageing and
longevity failure of maintenance and the origin of age-related disases, loss of cell proliferation, cellular mortality and immortality, instability of the genome, misregulation of genetic
information transfer, post-synthetic modifications, macromolecular turnover, nature of gerontogenes, and modern approaches for antiageing and life-prolonging therapies.
