To illustrate the mechanisms of development of insects and mammals and give examples of specific developmental molecules and routes.

In class, the molecular development of drosophila and mouse will be discussed, with emphasis on specific signal molecules/pathways. Similarities between species in forming
developmental axis and genes setting cell fate will be highlighted. We will be looking on developmental molecules and routes for specific organs.


Form and extent: Four adjoining lessons a week for 6 weeks consisting of two hours group discussion and two hours lectures of which one will introduce the subject of the
following week.


Qualifications: The course is offered to students who have completed three years of study in biology or molecular biology.




Text-books

Original literature can be obtained before or during the course.




Evaluation

Passing is based upon at least 80% registered attendance and on participation in the group discussions.
