Arts Travel Grant

STADS is up and running

STADS is once again up and running, and you can register for spring classes and exams. The registration deadline is Thursday 7 November at 23.59.

Application criteria

You can apply for an Arts travel grant if you:

  • are going to study at a host university abroad as a freemover
  • are doing an internship/fieldwork/language stay abroad (on the condition that a study abroad period is included in your academic regulations)
  • You must have completed at least one year of your degree programme at AU (passed exams totalling 60 ECTS).
  • Your study abroad period must be included in your ordinary study plan and be credit-bearing, corresponding to a minimum of 30 ECTS.
  • The duration of the stay must be a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 10 months, unless otherwise stated in your academic regulations. Additionally, the stay must be in one consecutive period at one destination.
  • You cannot apply for funding for travel in Denmark
  • You cannot apply for funding for travel in connection with your Master's thesis

You are automatically nominated for a scholarship if you:

  • are going on exchange through one of AU’s exchange agreements

If you are offered an exchange through one of AU’s exchange agreements, you are automatically nominated for an Erasmus, Nordplus/Nordlys or Arts Travel Grant. You cannot receive more than one grant per stay abroad. You will be notified directly via your AU email if you have been awarded a travel grant, and you will be asked to provide the necessary information for receiving the grant payment.

The original document is then scanned and sent to rejsestipendium.arts@au.dk no later than two weeks after you return home.

Please note! If you are unable to present/return this document to the Faculty of Arts, you will be required to repay your Arts Travel Grant.

Previous stays abroad

An Arts Travel Grant can be awarded a maximum of two times throughout the total period of study: once at the BA level and once at the MA level.

Please note that previous stays financed by Erasmus+ and Nordplus/Nordlys grants are included in this count.

Application deadlines

The online applications are open in the following two application rounds each year:

  • 1 March-1 April (study abroad start in the period 1 May to 30 November)
  • 1 October-1 November (study abroad start in the period 1 December to 30 April).

The online application must be submitted before midnight on the closing date of the application round.

Applications that are not submitted before the deadline will not be considered.

You cannot apply retrospectively.

You can submit an application even if you do not have all the necessary information yet (for example, the name of the internship host organisation, start and end dates of your stay and the advance approval). You are then required to send the information to rejsestipendium.arts@au.dk as soon as you have it.

Note that payment of the Arts Travel Grant is conditional on you submitting all the necessary information. If you submit the necessary information later, your payment will also be delayed.

Please note! As we cannot process applications retroactively, it is not possible to receive the grant after the completion of your stay.

Grant categories

If you are awarded an Arts Travel Grant, there are two applicable rates, both of which are one-off payments:

Europe (incl. the UK)

DKK 4,000

Outside Europe
(incl. Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Iceland)

DKK 6,000

The rates are fixed, so it is not necessary to include a budget with your application.

Appendices to the application

You should only attach/submit an advance approval as an appendix to your application if you:

  • are going to study at a host university abroad as a freemover

If you are going to study at a university abroad as a freemover, you must enclose/submit an advance approval from the board of studies.

Students doing internships/fieldwork/language stays should not submit an advance approval.

Note that payment of the Arts Travel Grant is conditional on you submitting the advance approval (if applicable). If you submit the advance approval later, your payment will also be delayed.

Please note! As we cannot process applications retroactively, it is not possible to receive the grant after the completion of your stay.

If you are offered an exchange through one of AU’s exchange agreements, you will receive a direct notification to your AU email address regarding the submission of necessary information. This information is required in order to receive the payment.

Application replies

You will receive notification of approval or rejection within two months after the application deadline, provided that the application includes the required documents, as described above. If not, please expect delayed processing times.

Note that the Arts Travel Grant is awarded on the condition that, upon your return, you can provide documentation of your stay in accordance with the requirements in the section "Submission of proof of study abroad period".

Payment of the grant

The grant will be paid out to your NemKonto on the last business day of the month prior to the official start date of your study abroad period, internship, field work stay or language stay. For example, if your study abroad period starts on 12 February, the grant will be paid out on the last business day of January. It is not possible to advance the payment if you choose to travel, for example, 1-2 weeks before the official commencement of studies/commencement of the internship. If you do not have a NemKonto, please send us an email with your bank account details.

Changes to your application

Change of university/internship host organisation/fieldwork host/language stay host or period of stay

If you make changes to your original application, e.g. the host university/internship host organisation/fieldwork host/language stay host or the period of your stay abroad, you are obliged to inform us as it may impact your grant, and your application will need to be reassessed.

Please note that a grant is associated with the semester indicated in the application and cannot be transferred from one semester to another.

Cancellation of stay

If you choose to cancel your stay abroad/your stay is cancelled, you are obliged to notify us at rejsestipendium.arts@au.dk.

Submission of proof of study period abroad

Along with your grant approval letter, you received the appendix “Confirmation of enrolment”.
The document can also be found under “Forms” on this page.

Confirmation of enrolment
Immediately before the end of your study abroad period, your host university/internship host organisation/fieldwork organisation/language course host must confirm your stay and its duration via the “confirmation of enrolment” document. The document must be completed, dated, signed and stamped.

The original document is then scanned and sent to rejsestipendium.arts@au.dk no later than two weeks after you return home.

Please note! If you are unable to present/return this document to the Faculty of Arts, you will be required to repay your Arts Travel Grant.
