- to give experience in constructing, testing, and evaluating computer simulations to understand biological processes
- to provide an understanding of the function, potential and limitations of different types of computer models in describing biological processes
Content
We will mainly use the computer simulation package STELLA to demonstrate prospects and pitfalls of computer modelling in investigating biological processes. The students will learn to use this package to solve different problems. Different aspects of computer modelling will be addressed in short lectures and subsequently illuminated by a set of simple exercises for the participants to solve by computer simulation. We will then discuss the outcome of these models in the next session. The participants will ultimately select their own biological process to model and describe the implementation of this model in a report.
